Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
LEADERSHIP
  • Works collaboratively with the childcare center leadership staff and Early Achievers Coach to meet contract mandates and offer high quality programming and adheres to the Washington Administrative Codes (WACs) as defined by the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF)
  • Assumes the responsibilities of opening and closing procedures in the absence of an assistant director or director
  • Assumes the administrative responsibilities that will be delegated to them by an assistant director or director
  • Oversees active supervision of participants by managing the flow and implementation of activities
  • Implements and assists in planning activities and follows curriculum
  • Addresses behavior via positive reinforcement
  • Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth
  • Collaborates with school-age team members to ensure the success of participants
  • Communicates with school -age team members, families, community center staff, and Seattle Public Schools (SPS) staff
  • Provides solution-based suggestions
SAFETY
  • Assumes the responsibilities of initiating the Incident Response Plan in the absence of the assistant director or director
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of designated program space(s)
  • Provides a safe environment by ensuring emergency preparedness is followed
  • Removes and avoids any potential hazards
  • Communicates hazards to immediate supervisor
  • Supports regular safety drills
  • Reports and documents incidents/accidents to immediate supervisor
CARE & CUSTODY
  • Maintains the appropriate staff to participant ratio in absence of supervisors
  • Conducts regular head counts and roll calls
  • Maintains audio/visual supervision of participants at all times
  • Maintains required staff to participant ratios
  • Ensures environments are well-maintained, developmentally appropriate and supports the needs of the program and its participants
  • Provides positive transitions that maintain ratios/head counts to minimize the risk of unwanted behaviors
  • Supports other organization sites and programs as needed

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a community center environment or may be at various sites. This role may routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, scanners and photocopiers.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a part-time, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekends, position. The hours can vary between the hours of 6:00am-9:00am and/or 12:30pm-6:00pm during the school year. For break camps/summer day camp it varies Monday-Friday between 7:00am-6:00pm.
PAY RATE
Starting pay: $23.00/hr
Full pay range: $23.00-26.45 (the employee may earn up to $26.45 with continued years of service)

If you have school-age childcare experience and would enjoy leading a small team, then Associated Recreation Council (ARC) has a role for you as a School-age Childcare Lead Counselor at Meadowbrook Community Center. This is a year-round, part-time position starting immediately.
ARC, in partnership with Seattle Parks and Recreation, serves Seattle by offering access to licensed childcare and a variety of recreational and lifelong learning programs, classes, and activities. In this role, School-age Childcare Lead Counselors will lead groups of children through fun, creative, safe, and welcoming activities for children to learn, play and grow during our after-school program.
Schedule:
  • Part-time, non-exempt, up to 25 hr/week position during the school-year; may work summers as well
  • School year hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday - 2:30pm - 6:00pm; Wednesday 1:00pm - 6:00pm
  • Summer hours: Monday-Friday 7:00am-6:00pm
School-age Childcare Lead Counselor Responsibilities:
  • Leads daily curriculum activities with a classroom of children ages 5-12 years old
  • Models appropriate behavior and provides opportunities for social and emotional growth
  • Ensures a ratio of 1:10 (staff to children) is maintained as much as possible to ensure that children are safe and accounted for
  • Mentors and leads School-age Childcare Counselors and to the Associated Recreation Council School-age Director
School-age Childcare Lead Counselor Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have High School Diploma, GED, college transcripts or other secondary education
  • Initial certificate (12 credits) in ECE required (by 5 years or by Aug. 1, 2026). Short Certificate (20 credits) in ECE must be obtained 2 years from completing Initial Certificate
  • Must have 1-2 years of experience working with youth in a recreation setting or childcare setting
  • Experience with working with 5-12 year olds in a group setting (1:10 ratio)
  • Experience developing and leading programs and activities such as: arts and crafts, organized games, cultural activities, drama, music, story hour, sports, and other special projects and events

Pay:
  • Starting pay: $23.00
  • Full Pay Range: $23.00-26.45/hr (Over time, the employee in this role may earn up to $26.45/hr with additional years of service)

The new hire signing bonus will be paid out in three (3) installments.
