JOB
SUMMARY: Performs supervisory and administrative police work as a mid level manager directing the operation of the police department.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES ADMINISTRATION / OPERATIONS: Plans, organizes, and directs the operation of the Patrol Division and, when needed, the Detective Division; directly supervises the Dispatch Division and the Community Service Officers; directly supervises the department’s Special Response Team; assigns duties to subordinates and constructs schedules for all assigned personnel. Reviews activity reports prepared by police personnel for quantity and quality of work performance. Serves as the Public Information Officer in the absence of the Chief or Captain. Administers the department’s management information systems. Keeps the Chief of Police informed of activities performed in assigned division; Inspects the work of subordinates; makes certain that operations are performed efficiently, economically, and effectively. Maintains the department's training records and assists in preparation of the department's yearly training plan; supervises all administrative business with Wyoming P.O.S.T. Determines need for supplies and equipment; supervises the issuing of and accounting for all supplies and equipment. PUBLIC RELATIONS: Coordinates programs with other law enforcement agencies as assigned. Maintains liaison with Judges, District Attorneys, and other law enforcement officials. POLICY: Keeps subordinates informed of rules and regulations, laws, case law, and orders; conducts and/or reviews investigation of complaints filed against subordinates and recommends or initiates corrective action as necessary. FINANCIAL: Administers grants utilized by the department. Assists with annual departmental budget preparations and management.SUPERVISORY: Direct supervision of all department Sergeants and general supervisory and administrative supervision of all assigned personnel.

OTHER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of arrest procedures. Thorough knowledge of agency rules, regulations, and practices. Thorough knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances. Considerable knowledge of administrative methods and procedures.
