Position Title: Children’s Ministry Assistant

Reports To: Associate Pastor for Spiritual Development

Salary and benefits: $20 an hour, 10-12 hours weekly

Summary & Work Hours: The Children’s Ministry Assistant works collaboratively with the Children’s Ministry Coordinator and provides administrative and program support for the Children’s Ministry program at FPC. Hours will be primarily on Sunday morning and evening, as well as quarterly special, weekday programming. To perform the responsibilities listed will require part-time employment at an average of 10-12 hours per week. Presence on Sundays for faith formation activities is a requirement.

Essential Functions

Program Support

• Regularly teach faith formation on Sunday mornings and evenings with the Children's Minister and other CM staff.
• Print curriculum materials and prepare resources for Sunday faith formation in classrooms.
• Assist in program support outside of Sunday faith formation including music offerings, special events, and vacation bible school for children.
• Attend weekly FPC staff meetings as able.

Communications

• Develop, maintain and regularly update the database for all families and programs.
• Compose and update weekly e-newsletter in coordination with the Children's Minister.
• Maintain card ministry for special occasions for children.
• Be the liaison for Children's Ministry with communications to staff for First News Weekly, worship bulletins, and Children’s Ministry email account.
• Implement process for and maintain attendance at Sunday School faith formation and registration for special events (including music offerings, vacation bible school, etc.)

Working Environment and Accountability: This position requires some flexible scheduling with occasional evenings or weekends and may be subject to short timeframes. Office space is provided on site. This role reports to the Associate Pastor for Spiritual Development, who will provide direction as well as regular and annual reflections on performance, with the assistance of the Personnel Committee. It is expected that the Children's Ministry assistant will work as a member of the overall staff team toward the effective and faithful ministry of the church.

Qualifications:

• A demonstrated self-starter who is task-oriented and thrives in a team environment with grace and flexibility.
• Evidenced passion for spiritual formation with the goal of teaching young children and adolescents in this Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation.
• Pass a criminal background check and adhere to all Child & Youth Protection Policy requirements for employment at FPC Richmond.

Preferred attributes:

• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with at least 1 year of master-level education at an accredited Seminary or university.
• Experience with database management and digital marketing tools like Canva and Constant Contact.
