MedCheck Urgent Care Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
General Summary: The MedCheck Urgent Care LPN provides direct patient care and support and assistance to the provider and clinical staff and works under the direction of the manager and the Urgent Care Provider. Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, administrative tasks, the registration of patients, collection of co-pays, making follow-up appointments with specialists, assisting with Occupational Health appointments, performing general office duties and tasks, and maintaining supply inventory.
Essential Job Functions:
Triage and screen patient telephone calls for providers.
Perform clinical assessments, utilizing knowledge of disease process and treatment.
Assist office staff in triaging call-in and walk-in appointments.
Coordinate with office staff in monitoring and adjusting scheduling and workload of providers to insure the smooth flow of patients.
When requested by manager or provider, carryout standing orders for medication refills, ordering tests, and routine health maintenance services per Health Center protocols.
Interview patients for health history and clinical information updates.
Conduct nursing assessments and preliminary patient work-ups.
Take patient vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, etc.).
Apply and change dressings/bandages.
Administer IM, SQ, intradermal, and inhaled medications and vaccines.
Administer allergy injections, as per protocols.
Perform catheterization per provider orders and within the scope of protocols.
Conduct vision screening.
Conduct audiometry screening.
Perform EKG’s.
Assist provider with procedures.
Perform other procedures as per protocols, for example starting IV’s, and responding to Code Blue/defib needs.
Instruct patients about treatment regimens (medication, diet, activity, etc.).
Provide education and instruction on issues of health maintenance.
Participate in the development and implementation of community health education initiatives (screening clinics, public information forums, etc.).
Collect specimens and perform laboratory tests as per protocols.
Record tests and results in appropriate EMR.
Dispense pharmaceuticals as per provider orders and in accordance with state and Federal practice guidelines.
Monitor inventory levels and outdates of on-site supplies
Document nursing activities and relevant patient care information in medical records as per health center protocols.
Record and maintain records and statistics (e.g. immunizations, perinatal data, etc.) as per protocols or request.
Clean and sterilize instruments.
General office infection control.
Participate in the development, implementation, audit, and continuous evaluation and improvement of protocols, services and programs.
It is expected that you will meet the productivity standards that are set forth by your Supervisor and/or organizational protocols.
Qualifications:
Education
Required: Graduate of an accredited LPN program
Work Experience
Required: Minimum of two years of experience in an acute care setting, i.e. urgent care, emergency department
Preferred: 3-5 years of experience in an acute care setting
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required: Licensed in the State of New Hampshire. Provider level CPR/BLS.
Preferred: ACLS and PALS certification
Other Skills/Knowledge:
Required: Ability to respond appropriately to changing patient and staffing conditions. Demonstrated ability to seek guidance and/or support from appropriate resources. Knowledge of emergency medical treatment.
Computer literacy. Ability to write clearly and concisely. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to give and accept feedback in a constructive manner.
