Salary: $19-$24/hr

POSITION SUMMARY

Performs lifeguarding activities, including the enforcement of pool regulations; makes rescues; administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other first aid; and performs related duties as required.
This is a seasonal job class. Lifeguards are assigned to the tribal pool and work under the direct supervision of the Director of Youth Education. Duties of this class are performed during weekdays, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Visually observes the use of the tribal pool and surrounding area; enforces water safety; removes hazardous obstacles from pool area and water; reports hazardous conditions which cannot be corrected.
  2. Performs swimming rescues in emergencies, utilizing accepted lifesaving techniques; uses emergency rescue apparatus such as paddle boards, rescue tubes, masks, fins, and snorkels.
  3. Administers cardiopulmonary resuscitation and/or other first aid treatment; operates resuscitator; summons emergency vehicle in critical situations.
  4. Prepares routine reports on standardized forms and maintains accurate records of first aid rendered and rescue actions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  2. There are no formal minimum educational requirements for this class; however, the ability to read and write English is essential.
  3. Possession of a valid California license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.
  4. Possession of a valid CPR/First Aid card.

DRUG SCREEN

Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired. The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.

Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing. Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.

BACKGROUND CHECK

Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired. Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

NATIVE PREFERENCE

Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
