Position Information

The City of Pittsburg seeks to fill MAINTENANCE AIDE vacancies for seasonal work in the Public Work's Parks and Landscape Division.

Maintenance Aides assist in performing a variety of parks maintenance functions related to the upkeep of the City as assigned by a supervisor and/or lead staff member. Hiring priority is currently in the Park and Maintenance area-Landscape Division. Pay will typically starts at $17.82/hour up to $23.46 (depending on experience) and Maintenance Aides generally work up to six months per cycle. New hires will learn about landscape, teamwork, and tree care. Ideal candidates will love working outdoors, making a difference, and enjoy beautifying the City's lands and parks.
Successful candidates will possess the following:
  • Ability to work in a team environment on a crew
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner with attention to detail
  • Dependable and able to maintain punctual attendance; regular attendance is essential
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to work outdoors under various weather and environmental conditions for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work flexible hours including up to 10-12 hour shifts or overtime; available to work weekends, holidays, and special events
  • Basic mechanical ability to learn and be comfortable operating various equipment depending on work assignments such as chainsaws, wood chippers, weed trimmers, blowers, etc.
  • Able to deal with public and colleagues in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Acceptable driving record
  • Previous landscape experience is highly desired.

The City of Pittsburg is a full-service city following the council-manager form of government. The City has approximately 300 full time employees and at times, up to 350 employees total (depending on the season). Examples of Duties

Concrete and landscape maintenance citywide.
  • Tasks include general building and park cleaning including, restrooms, emptying trash containers and general cleaning work around parks and facilities.
  • Landscape duties will include general landscape maintenance such as raking, sweeping, mowing, pruning shrubs, manual watering, spraying herbicides and planting.
  • Building maintenance may include painting both exterior and interior, light carpentry and site preparation work for concrete.
  • Prior tractor with accessories operation experience desired.
  • Experience in landscape maintenance and/ or maintenance work desired but not required.
Qualifications

Education : Qualified applicants must have completed of the tenth (10th) grade.
License: Must possess a valid California driver's license.
Background Requirements: Ability to successfully pass driver's license check, fingerprint background and drug screening.

1. 2. Interviews: Accepted applicants will be interviewed by park supervisory staff and offered a seasonal job if successful during interview and have provided a clean driving record printout to the hiring supervisor.
3. Pre-Employment Screening/New Hires: Candidates will be fingerprinted for a background check and submit results for a drug screening test as part of pre-employment. Successful candidates who pass the background process will complete new hire paperwork and begin work soon after.
