TITLE: English Language Arts Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Pupil Personnel Services Certificate with appropriate endorsements, such as Speech-Language Pathologist
  2. Ability to effectively apply the principles of assessment, treatment, and prevention of speech, language, and hearing disorders
  3. Demonstrated knowledge in the field of speech-language pathology
  4. Works well with students, staff, and the public
  5. Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal, and communication skills
  6. Maintain confidentiality of staff and students

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO

Secondary Counselor/District Test Coordinator and Director of Special Education

JOB SUMMARY

To provide identification, intervention, and special services to students with language, speech, and hearing disorders to help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that may interfere with students' ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Providing Direct Services to Students

  1. Utilize assessment procedures, techniques, and standardized tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis of speech, language and/or hearing disorders
  2. Plan, prepare, and deliver treatment programs for children with speech and language deficiencies
  3. Plan and conduct teacher/parent conferences when needed
  4. Inform parents and teachers of results of language, speech, and hearing diagnostic evaluation
  5. Assist parents in improving their skills in working with their child's speech and language delays
  6. Provide direct therapy based on individual needs
  7. Conduct ongoing evaluation of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their program
  8. Assist in the referral of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community

Child Study Team and IEP Responsibilities

  1. Provide diagnostic evaluations of pupils referred to the child study team for communication disorders, and participate in team conferences related to those pupils
  2. Develop and implement an individualized educational program (IEP) in conjunction with parents and teachers of pupils who are eligible for speech correction, and identify pupils in need of related services
  3. Formulate long-term goals and short-term instructional objectives to be included in a student's IEP, Total Service Plan, and Instructional Implementation Plan
  1. Maintain a close relationship with the child study team and serve as a case manager as assigned
  2. May participate in the child study team
  3. Provide individual and small group intervention sessions with students who have been classified

Other

  1. Conduct classes in language stimulation
  2. Keep records necessary for each child and complete all required local, state, and federal reports
  3. Participate in the development and improvement of opportunities for students with disabilities by providing individual or group in-service experiences for staff and parents
  4. Familiarize principals, teachers, and other school personnel with language, speech and hearing services
  5. Submit reports to the Director of Special Services upon request
  1. Assist teachers in developing language and speech programs to be carried out in the classroom
  2. Address community groups concerning communication disorders upon request
  3. Acts as an educational consultant to classroom teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators as required
  4. Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies
  5. Assume responsibility for his or her continuing professional growth and development by such efforts as attendance at professional meetings, membership in professional organizations, enrollment in advanced courses, and by reading professional journals and other publications
  6. Adhere to The Code of Ethics of the Idaho Teaching Profession adopted by the Professional Standards Commission and the State Board of Education
  7. Seek assistance should emergencies arise
  8. Represent the school district in a positive manner
  9. Know and follow school district policy and chain of command
  10. Perform other duties as assigned

COMPENSATION
Salary based on placement on the career ladder. Position qualifies for benefits which include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; PERSI retirement as well as access to optional ancillary insurance and retirement products.
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator in conformance with federal and state law, administrative rules, and Board policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position shall be considered in all respects “employment at will”. The “employment period” and other descriptions and terms set forth in this job description shall not create a property right for the employee. These are set forth only to advise the employee of when and what type of services will be required by the district so long as the employment continues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
