The Student Health Services (SHS) Medical Secretary position provides non-clinical patient support primarily at UCF Student Health Services-Main Campus, but may also work at SHS Downtown Campus Clinic and SHS College of Medicine Clinic as needed. Responsible for reviewing patients' accounts, performing database maintenance functions, and ensuring the accuracy of all data recorded. Works under the supervision of the Student Health Coordinator.

Responsibilities: - Responsible for scheduling appointments with appropriate providers for non-emergency patients to ensure daily patient management.
- Refers patients to Nurse Facilitator for effective triage or facilitates triage with Nurse Facilitator via telephone.
- Acts as the primary scheduler for the University of Central Florida Student Health Services.
- Determines appropriate appointment types/time lengths.
- Greets patients.
- Responsible for insurance verification of appointments and eligibility of PeopleSoft.
- Reconciles scheduling (clinical and departmental) conflicts as they arise, or changes develop.
- Interprets policies and procedures as needed and disseminates information to USPS/OPS staff members.
- Creates and modifies departmental manuals, guidelines, and handbooks that are consistent with HIPAA policies and FERPA guidelines.
- Performs data entry, registers, and updates patient insurance information in the Electronic Health Records (EHR).
- Attend incoming calls, and disseminate information as needed, direct visitors to the appropriate department(s) within the UCF Health Services.
- Organize and disburse incoming and outgoing mail, post checks, and scan check logs.
- Generates reports and responds to inquiries regarding patient data.
- Responsible for collecting patient co-payments and/or any outstanding balances.
Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications :
- Clinical knowledge and understanding of CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Proficient with medical terminology.
- Working knowledge of health insurance, pre-authorizations, and medical specialties.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Electronic Medical Records experience.
- Professional communication skills, at all levels within the organization and with patients.
