National Forest Foundation is Hiring an Individual Giving Officer Near Missoula, MT

DescriptionNational Forest Foundation (NFF) is pleased to offer a regular, full-time position to a candidate who will grow philanthropic support from mid-level individual donors. The successful candidate may be located anywhere in the United States.

Position Function: The Individual Giving Officer will report to the Senior Director of Development and is responsible for generating unrestricted funds from existing and new individual donors to support the NFF’s mission. The position will work closely with the entire Development team and other key staff across the NFF to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward gifts from donors in the $1,000-$10,000 range. This is a focused position with a strong external orientation; it will require significant time conducting prospect research and donor outreach, and meeting with donors. This position is an opportunity to build on an important donor program that capitalizes on the organization’s rapid growth and success.
Position Duties and Responsibilities: The Individual Giving Officer will:
  • Retain and increase support from individuals by managing and growing a portfolio of prospects giving at the $1,000-$10,000 level annually.
  • Focus on unrestricted giving, while honoring donors’ other interests as appropriate and creating individual strategies that maximize each donor’s potential.
  • Identify prospects from within the NFF's current donor pool and qualify them for higher-level giving, drawing on analytics to refine donor opportunities.
  • Conduct thorough prospect research in support of new donor acquisition.
  • Cultivate prospects virtually and in person to build strong relationships with the NFF and its mission.
  • Personally solicit gifts, seeking always to draw donors closer to the organization and increase their support over time.
  • Steward mid-level donor relationships both on an individual level and as a whole; collaborate with the Marketing team to create tailored ways to connect with the group.
  • Work with Development colleagues to strengthen the NFF’s mid-level giving program.
  • Qualify donors for major gifts to ensure a strong pipeline of prospects for the NFF’s “Trailblazers Club” (unrestricted donors at $10,000 annually).
  • Use moves management to track donor relationships, add contact reports and other prospect information to the CRM, and report on progress toward goals.
  • Assist with various duties as assigned.
Location: The location for this position is flexible throughout the US. This position is a remote/work from home position and requires reliable internet access and a dedicated workspace.
Compensation: The NFF offers competitive compensation and benefits and has recently implemented a new compensation program as part of our commitment to transparency. The salary range for this position will be in the $64,100 to $99,000 range and may be eligible for locality adjustment. Please note that the indicated salary range describes the full range for an incumbent in this position. New staff generally start at the 35th percentile of the range percentile to ensure internal salary equity.

  • At least five years’ of nonprofit development experience with proven results.
  • Direct experience crafting and executing individual donor strategies.
  • Direct experience soliciting and securing gifts of $1,000 from individual donors.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Special preference for candidates with experience in the conservation sector.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Abilities and Skills: NFF expects the Individual Giving Officer to possess the following abilities and skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including comfort with phone calls, presentations, and soliciting donors.
  • Ability to communicate the NFF’s mission with enthusiasm, passion, candor, and nuance.
  • Ability to effectively leverage technology to connect with geographically dispersed donors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite of software applications.
  • Strong relationship-building and management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely while still functioning as an integral member of a team.
  • Ability to set priorities while managing a variety of tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
