Specific Job Activities
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of the individual served. Be trained in and train others in areas of health and safety specific to individual served(s) served and accessing emergency assistance.
  • Assist in and directly supporting the individual served in activities of daily living such as meal preparation, housekeeping, laundry, money management, social skills, hygiene and grooming assuring that the individual served participates as much as he/she is able to in order to support the highest level of independence.
  • Accompany the individual served into the community, leading to a more inclusive and integrated lifestyle.
  • Follow the Individual Service Plan for the individual served you are supporting and provide basic training to other DSPs on the ISP(s) applicable.
  • Assist in areas of health maintenance of individual served. Tasks may include supporting individual served in areas of medication administration, assisting individual served with obtaining medication refills, assisting with transporting to community and/or medical appointments.
  • Participate in the On-Call Rotation between other Lead DSPs for the transportation department.
  • Be available to work as substitute staff when necessary with other individual served (after receiving applicable training).
  • Mentor and assist in training other staff on job responsibilities when appropriate.
  • Assist the eMPower Academy Manager and Facility Coordinator in taking call offs and re-organizing schedules to fit needs of individuals.
  • Be available to open the agency in the mornings in a weekly rotation.
  • Be available to stay late at the agency to ensure individuals get home safely.
  • Assist in Administrative tasks which may include, but is not limited, to the following:
  • File all required paperwork as indicated by the applicable manager or director.
  • Consistently communicate with the manager regarding any issues, concerns or celebrations with the individual served(s) and/or the site(s).
  • Attend all facility meetings, or events, as scheduled.
  • Perform specialized duties based on the primary area of programming, while maintaining flexibility and a working knowledge of other technical specializations in the event that assistance is needed in other program areas.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating individual served activities with direct supervisor to ensure that client program objectives are being met.
  • Assist in providing a variety of activities each month within the community for client inclusion.

Requirements
  1. High School Diploma or GED preferred
  2. Experience working in an educational or service related field preferred
  3. Must be able to learn (instruction provided) basic principles of teaching. Must have good basic mathematical computation and English Language writing knowledge. As required by specific job requirements, must know first aid/health/safety measures, or build an acceptable competence level by post-hire training.
  4. Valid Driver's License
  5. Must be able to meet agency insurability requirements
  6. Must be able to bend, stoop, or stand for long periods of time. Must also be able to assistance in lifting or transferring individuals to and from wheelchairs. Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to: gloves, masks, gowns, face shields, shoes, ear plugs, etc. Must be able to follow all required safe and universal precaution practices during a pandemic and as required otherwise.
