The Athletic Trainer provides exceptional patient care within the hospital and clinic setting under the direction of the Physician as a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team specialized in orthopedic and musculoskeletal care.
Assist with intake of patients including medical history, physical exam, preparations of imaging and any other intake requirements relating to office visit then communicates results to physician. Collaborate with physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and other applicable providers to evaluate the patients physical condition and advise a treatment plan and return to play considerations for the athlete. Develop and maintain strong relationships with local high schools, colleges, and various athletic organizations. Provide discharge instructions and participation status, instructions for home exercise programs, schedules follow-up visits and makes referrals to other healthcare providers as prescribed by the treating physician's assistant. Follow-up with patients and ensures ongoing communication with patients, school personnel, applicable allied healthcare professionals, parent/guardians, etc. as required. Assist in the operating room within the scope of practice of an OTC/OTC-SC. Assist with the fitting of durable medical goods and apply casts where needed. Maintains clinical competence by attending continuing education classes each year. Participate in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Education / Accreditation / Licensure (required & preferred):
Bachelors degree in Kinesiology, Sports Medicine or similar required. Athletic training license from Board of Certification Athletic Training Certification (BOC) required. Orthopedic Technologist certification required. Post Graduate Athletic Training Residency Program preferred.
Experience (required and preferred):
0 2 years athletic training experience required.
