We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Steel Purchaser to join our dynamic team in a metal fabrication shop. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of steel materials, procurement processes, and logistical expertise to ensure the seamless and efficient sourcing of materials for our fabrication projects.

Job Description: Steel Purchaser

Salary: 75k to 100k Depending on Experience

Key Responsibilities:

• • Source and procure a wide range of steel materials, including various shapes, grades, and specifications, in accordance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers and engineers to understand project specifications and material needs.
  • Determine maximum freight loads and create shipping tickets to optimize the transportation of materials to the fabrication shop.
  • Oversee the coordination of timely and cost-effective material deliveries to meet project timelines.
  • Manage the outsourcing of coatings, including galvanization, painting, and powder coating processes, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Source and procure shop operating supplies, such as welding wire, gases, grinding disks, and other consumables necessary for the fabrication process.
  • Conduct thorough market research to identify and evaluate potential suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure a reliable and cost-effective supply chain.
  • Review project drawings to ensure accurate alignment with material specifications, preventing discrepancies in the procurement process.
  • Utilize tools such as Tekla EPM (Fabsuite) for efficient and streamlined procurement processes.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in purchasing for metal fabrication companies.
• Familiarity with shop operating supplies and consumables used in the fabrication process.
• Previous experience in metal fabrication is highly advantageous.
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
• Familiarity with industry regulations and standards.
