City of Laguna Beach is Hiring a Maintenance Aide Near Laguna Beach, CA
DescriptionThe City of Laguna Beach is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for Maintenance Aide Part-Time (Laborer IV Part-Time) positions in our Landscape Maintenance Division. The Maintenance Aide performs a variety of maintenance tasks, including assisting in the maintenance of parks, athletic fields, streetscapes, trees, plantings, turf, hardscapes, irrigation systems, and recreation play areas. Work includes planting, watering, weeding, trimming, and fertilizing shrubs, trees, and flowerbeds, as well as maintaining and preparing athletic fields. This position reports to the Division Manager or the assigned designee.
What You’ll Be Great At
The normal duties for this position can be found in the job description for Laborer IV . They are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
QualificationsAny combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to effectively and successfully perform the duties of the position is considered qualifying. A typical combination is as follows:
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year general maintenance, construction or repair work experience. Experience in driving larger vehicles is desirable, as is basic knowledge of simple hand tools and basic mechanical skills. Experience in landscaping and irrigation is highly desirable.
License/Certificate Requirements: A valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required . A valid California Class B Driver's license is desirable . Must be at least 17 years of age to be hired as a Laborer Ill and at least 18 years of age for Laborer IV.

This recruitment may be used to fill other vacancies for Maintenance Aide Part-Time (Laborer IV Part-Time) positions in the Public Works Department in one of the following divisions: Parks & Buildings, Landscape Maintenance, Streets, or Fleet Maintenance. Appointments may be made at either level depending on qualifications.
Application/Selection Process: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis, with a first review on June 20, 2024 . Applications will be screened carefully and selected candidates will be invited to undergo a department interview. The appointed hiring authority will further review the job-related qualifications of those deemed eligible for hire before making selection decisions.
Preplacement Process: Selected candidates must successfully pass a police background check with the Laguna Beach Police Department, which includes a fingerprint check with the State Department of Justice, and a pre-placement physical including a drug test. Education and employment verification and reference check(s) may also be conducted.

and their moving parts; dust; refuse; human and animal waste materials. Duties require the ability to stand or walk on hard surfaces for frequent and prolonged periods of time. Additional physical demands require frequent bending, stooping, and safe lifting and/or moving of moderately heavy objects, up to 50 pounds in weight.
In compliance with FTA and FMCSA rules and the applicable City policy, candidates for this position are required to pass drug testing prior to employment. If hired in this position, drug and alcohol testing will be administered as follows: (1) post accident; (2) reasonable suspicion; (3) random testing; (4) return to work; and follow-up testing. Benefits For Laguna Beach Hourly/Part-Time EmployeesThe basic pay ranges are composed of either five (5), seven (7) or eight (8) steps.
Overtime Pay: All employees shall be compensated at a rate of time and a half for all hours worked in excess of forty hours per work week.
Retirement: Eligible employees are enrolled into the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS). This program requires an employee contribution of 3.75% of base pay. The City matches your contribution for total of 7.5%.
