Description:
The Associate Scientist for column technologies is responsible for packing and evaluating chromatography columns of various sizes from 1 mL to 100 liters. The person in this position must understand basic chromatography theory and be able to evaluate column packing performance using standard as well as novel techniques. These columns will be used internally as well as externally by customers in downstream processing of biopharmaceutical compounds (e.g. protein, nucleic acids, etc.) This is a laboratory position requiring experimental skills necessary to develop and demonstrate new column technologies developed. In addition, very strong writing skills are required.
The Associate Scientist in the R&D team will pack and evaluate the companies proprietary chromatography columns ranging in size from 1 mL to 100 liters.
• Collect and analyze the column packing and performance data and prepare SOPs and technical reports to demonstrate the prepacked columns manufactured by organization
• Deliver projects and corresponding deliverables internally according to deadlines and keep the R&D Manager – Chromatography Consumables updated regarding progress.
• Develop a working knowledge of all process chromatography instrumentation and resins.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelors or Master's degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemical Sciences, Chemical Engineering
• Experience in bioprocessing technology and/or a cGMP environment.
Skills and Qualifications
• 2-4 years of practical experience working with AKTA chromatographic processes and column packing. In addition, practical knowledge of pilot plant/manufacturing technology for biologics is a plus.
• Extensive knowledge of chromatography software (e.g., Unicorn) is required although advanced training will be provided as needed.
• Extensive knowledge of chromatography theory and different resin modes (Affinity, SEC, IEX, HIC, Mixed-mode).
• Excellent writing skills to prepare SOPs and technical reports for internal and external use.
• Ability to carry out basic maintenance and troubleshooting of chromatography instruments. Demonstrated experience with project-based laboratory tasks including the ability to multi-task and run projects in parallel.
