Purpose of Announcement

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING AND FOR FUTURE VACANCIES AS THEY OCCUR.
Kind of Work

Under direct supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair on instrumentation and electrical components for telemetry systems. Employees in this classification Installation, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintenance of SCADA Pack, DirectLogic, Allen Bradley, Tesco, and other similar Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Assist in the installation, calibration, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintenance of Flowline, Global Water, Endress Hauser, Milltronics, Met One, Precision Digital, and other sensors, transmitters, valves, and switches. Assist in the installation and maintenance of electrical wiring, network cabling, data cabling, conduit of various types, antennas, antenna cable, antenna masts, solar panels, lightning arrestors, power supplies of different voltages, uninterruptable power supplies, batteries, surge suppressors, voltage converters, wireless local area networks, and ethernet radio transceivers. Enters work orders into SCADA Division computer generated work order system in detail to maintain inventory, employee time record, and maintenance tracking. Performs related work as directed. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
NOTE: Employees will be required to obtain a Louisiana CDL Class B driver's license prior to the completion of their probationary periods.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination

Meets one of the following options:
I. Completion of high school or possession of an equivalent certificate; plus , substantial (approx. two years), verifiable experience as an electrician, electrician helper, or apprentice/intern in industrial or commercial electrical construction work.
OR
II. Possession of an accredited Associate's degree in a field of study closely related to Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering.
Substitution : Successful completion of college coursework closely related to Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering may substitute for the required experience in Option I, at the rate of one (1) credit hour for one (1) month of experience.
Preferred: Verifiable completion of an OSHA 10-hour construction industry training course is preferred.
Proof of completed education and training will be required.
Kind of Examination

The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Acceptable applicants will be notified of the time, date, and place of any assembled testing. Employees accumulate one half day of paid vacation for every two weeks worked.

An HMO medical insurance plan is avalable for employees and their
dependents. Jefferson Parish pays 80% of the premium for employees and 50% of
the premiums for dependents.
A Flexible Benefits Plan
Employees have the opportunity to save money by paying for health
insurance and optional insurance with pre-tax dollars. A Flexible Savings
Account for Medical Expenses and Dependent Care is also available.
Retirement
Most regular employees belong to the Parochial Employees' Retirement
System instead of the Social Security System. For employees hired after
January 01, 2007, a pension calculated at 3% of salary per year of service
is provided upon retirement at age 67 with 7 years of service, age 62 with
10 years of service, or age 55 with 30 years of service.
Tenure Payment
Employees are paid $25 per year of service in December of each year.
Employees must have worked two years before the first check is paid.
Deferred Compensation Plan(457b plan)
Similar to 401K programs, the 457b Deferred Plan allows employees to defer
up to $14,000 of pretax income each year to supplement retirement savings.
Pre-tax contributions can be cashed in upon retirement or termination without
penalty. This plan is provided by Nationwide Retirement Solutions 1-877-677-3678.
Special leaves of absence for military service, maternity leave, etc.
