World Relief seeks an Employment Specialist to provide assistance to newly arrived refugees and other immigrants by assisting in their search for initial employment and collaborating with them on employment-related matters including job retention and job re-placement as relevant. This position assists refugees and those granted asylum and other immigrants to become economically self-sufficient by preparing them for employment, utilizing employer contacts to place them in jobs, counseling on job upgrades and career pathway opportunities, and maintaining and expanding an employer network.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Develop contacts and relationships with new employers to increase interest in hiring refugee clients and maintain and strengthen existing employer relationships.
  • Represent World Relief to area employers as a desirable source of workers, acting as an advocate for client to the employer.
  • Assess client’s skills and experience and develop an employment plan with reasonable employment goals and strategies that will lead to employment.
  • Provide employment counseling to clients that may include developing effective job applications, resumes, and interview techniques, informing about job prospects, following up on job leads, and reviewing available career pathway opportunities.
  • Provide orientation on various life skills topics (budgeting, paying rent/utilities, riding the bus, scheduling medical appointments, etc.) when applicable.
  • Follow up with clients after job placement to address areas of concern and ensure continued employment.
  • Enable clients to attain self-sufficiency resources including going to bank, job training, transportation information (DMV), and other services that will remove identified barriers to employment.
  • Maintain accurate case files, case notes for program participants and reporting requirements in accordance with state and federal grant standards.
  • Work collaboratively with other members and programs of the Employment team to creatively address barriers to self-sufficiency.
  • Attend department and office-wide meetings.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

  • Willingness to advocate on behalf of clients with employers
  • Strong mediation and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge about the refugee
  • Fluency in an additional language such as Swahili and Arabic is highly desired 
Requirements
  • Mature and personal Christian faith

  • Able to affirm and/or acknowledge World Reliefs Core Beliefs, Statement of Faith, Christian Identity and National Evangelicals For the Health of The Nation document
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including occasional early mornings and evenings
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with at least one year experience in an office environment
  • Cross cultural competency
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

·General office setting. World Relief also offers hybrid and remote schedules for limited positions.

·Great lengths of time working on computer, reading from computer screen, entering information, standing at copier or fax machine, and some time on the phone or in virtual meetings may be required.

·Year-end archiving activities involve repeated lifting and bending.
