SIMEDHealth is Hiring a Laboratory Assistant Near Gainesville, FL

SIMEDHealth is currently seeking a Full-Time Laboratory Assistant to work in our busy Gainesville Laboratory. Our laboratory provides chemistry, hematology, immunology, virology and toxicology testing services to the more than 100 SIMEDHealth providers.
Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager/Director or their designee, the Laboratory Assistant (LA) will assist the Laboratory manager and/or medical technologists in the day-to-day operations of the clinical laboratory.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalency REQUIRED
  • Demonstrate familiarity with medical terminology
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Electronic Health Record experience PREFERRED
  • 1 year or more of experience in a laboratory health care setting preferred
General Responsibilities:
The following is a basic list of duties and functions which may be required of you in your position:
  • Understand and follow Infection Control, Universal Precautions, and Biohazardous Waste Protocol
  • Keep work area neat and organized
  • Notifies supervisor of tardiness and/or absenteeism as soon as possible
  • Adheres to dress code
  • Uses phone etiquette and professionalism when taking phone calls
  • Provides help and assistance as needed to patients, providers, visitors, and other staff
  • Is familiar with the use of Intergy Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Orchard Lab Information system (LIS)
  • Attendance is an essential job function of this position
The Laboratory assistant will:
  • Process various clinical specimens for testing, such as, but not limited to: blood, plasma, urine, sputum, and culture samples
  • Maintain lab and patient records
  • Classify and label samples
  • Demonstrate knowledge of laboratory safety protocols
  • Cleaning and Organize working areas
  • Comply with policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Be able to work independently and/or with a team
  • Be flexible and adaptive to changing situations
  • Be responsible for other duties as assigned, not specifically defined in this job description
