Description
Under general supervision, the position maintains and cleans City facilities and areas. Employees in this classification perform semi-skilled work. Position is responsible for operating maintenance tools and equipment, and maintaining grounds and other city facilities. Performs related work as directed.
Examples of Duties
Operates power mowers, edgers, clippers, hedgers, and other equipment used in landscaping.
Collects, rakes, and loads grass and brush; mows lawns and cleans grounds; plants, waters and assists with the care of shrubs, flowers and grass.
Maintains grounds including replacing earth after excavating, and trimming vegetation.
Applies fertilizers, insecticides, and other chemicals to outdoor areas.
Drives/operates facilities maintenance equipment such as dump trucks, back-hoes, mowers, and related equipment.
Operates a variety of hand and power tools.
Maintains traffic control around maintenance or construction areas.
Makes or assists with inside repairs such as electrical, heating, air conditioning, or plumbing.
Interprets work instructions such as work orders or service requests to plan days work.
Performs minor vehicle maintenance such as fueling, lubricating, and washing.
Assists with indoor construction/modifications such as erecting walls, modifying office space, or otherwise changing interior configurations.
Performs outdoor construction/modifications such as erecting fences, pouring concrete, and erecting signs.
Performs outdoor maintenance such as repairing sidewalks or repairing other City facilities .
Estimates materials needed for jobs; orders or assists in ordering materials.
Participates in special projects as assigned.
Interacts with public, providing information and services.
Completes reports such as daily activities reports, vehicle logs, and others as required by department.
Actively employs safety processes and procedures while performing job functions.

Minimum Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving maintenance or repair of public or private facilities and/or parks maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Special Requirements
Must be obtained within one (1) year of hire or promotion:
Florida CDL Class B
Basic Tree Pruning Certification
Florida Ornamental & Turf Pesticide License
Maintenance of Traffic - Intermediate
Must be obtained within two (2) years of hire or promotion:
Best Management Practices Certification
