Acadian Medical Center is Hiring a RN OR Circulator Near Eunice, LA

The RN Circulator manages all the necessary care inside the surgery room, assisting the team in maintaining and creating a comfortable, safe environment for the patient and observing the team from a wide perspective. With two primary roles as patient advocacy and patient safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages the nursing care in the operating room to ensuring everyone is working together as a team.
  • Prepares the operating room, and checking the stock of supplies and instruments.
  • Inventories all items (i.e. instruments. Bandages) both pre- and post-surgery.
  • Ensures a Time Out is performed before each surgery.
  • Observes to watch for possible errors during the procedure. (I.e. possible contamination of an instrument), checks and monitors all equipment use during surgery to confirm they are running smoothly.
  • As applicable assist the surgeon directly by controlling bleeding and other direct care nursing duties as applicable.
  • Serves as point of contact with the outside, may leave the operating room during the procedure to inform the family about the surgical team’s progress and patient’s condition.
  • Performs or reviews initial assessment before surgery, identifying any potential risks.
  • Preoperatively, the nurse assesses the patient and/or reviews assessment and prepares the operating room, equipment, supplies and tools.
  • Assists with the induction of anesthesia and helps position the patient
  • During surgery, may add sterile supplies as necessary and monitor intravenous fluids or drainage bags.
  • Post-Surgery transfers the patient to the recovery unit, providing a report of the operation and patient’s condition.
  • Charts timely and efficiently of what occurred in the operating room and all other applicable documentation/charting.
  • Any other duties assigned as needed to help drive our Mission and abide by our organizations values..

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

  • BLS (CPR) Certification required.
  • Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Louisiana
  • Read, Write, and Communicate effectively in English.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Patient Safety – every patient deserves a trained, skilled and knowledgeable RN in the surgery room, assuming the role as patient advocate – the primary spokesperson of the patient
  • Skillful clinical judgment– observation, knowledge, and assessment skills along with the ability to foresee needs are essential to the success of the operation. This attribute is also an imperative component when making decisions in behalf of the patient.
  • Informed Monitoring – the circulating nurse serves the welfare of the patient including the team’s success by assuming the role of an active observer, carefully watching any unintended or unanticipated event that could compromise the patient.
  • Critical thinking –as the patient’s guardian in the operating room, it is the nurse circulator’s job to perform an accurate recording, interpretation and response to the stream of data that is present during the course of operation
  • Accurate assessment – the education, training, and unwavering commitment to the patient allows the RN circulator to respond appropriately and quickly to the patient’s psychological, social and biological health.
  • Interpersonal communication skills –possessing a mix of proficiency, perception, and professionalism, these components defines a circulating nurse’s ability to interact and collaborate with all members of the team, which results to high quality level of care provided to the patient.
  • Expert evaluation –a circulating nurse is trained to perform accurate decision-making and perception, allowing not only sound assessment of the patient’s condition but also capable in planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
