Job Description Summary

In partnership with the Implementation and Strategic Initiatives Director in the Americas SSO S&O, responsible to lead value-based special projects that strengthen the functional health and core competencies of SSO in line with short, medium, and long-term strategies.
May represent Americas/US SSO in cross-functional teams/projects and matrix leads a network of SMEs across SSO to pull through the voice of SSO associates into special projects and new system implementation, where required.
Act as Business Partner in collaboration with other hub/Country functions from SSO (e.g Portfolio, SSU, Field Monitoring)

Job Description

Location: East Hanover, Preferred

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive and own technology platforms that enable automation of workflows, sharing of best practices, and business adoption of ideas and information within SSO in collaboration with the Implementation and Strategic Initiatives Director.
  • Leads teams for the Implementation and Strategic Initiatives Director to synthesize best practice and knowledge sharing learnings across SSO.
  • Represents SSO as a strategic partner for the GCO Training CoE on the sharing of best practice and business adoption of system enhancements, ideas, and information sharing within SSO and across GCO. Drives and owns platform(s) within SSO that enable best practicing sharing and adoption, as appropriate.
  • While leading assigned value-based special projects, utilizes network of SSO SMEs to pull through SSO strategy and the voice of the customer/SSO associate in gap analyses, process redesign, roll out of new processes, new system implementation, and significant system changes/enhancements.
  • Represents Americas/US SSO on initiatives to enhance existing systems or in new system implementation and drives strategies for SSO user engagement and system adoption.
  • Embeds a risk management mindset to proactively anticipate and avoid problems resulting from the creation and rollout of new processes and tools within SSO.
  • In collaboration with the Strategic Initiatives and Implementation Lead, Identifies and evaluates external (e.g. TransCelerate, CenterWatch) and internal operating trends and practices to determine best-in-class approach to continuously evolve SSO as best-in-class in the industry.
  • Align with other SSO Project Managers on organizational processes and recommendations to ensure optimum performance, assessment of opportunities, and interaction with other relevant functions.
  • May serve as a delegate for the Implementation and Strategic Initiatives Director, Americas, and the Americas S&O Leadership team.

The ideal location for this role is East Hanover where hybrid working principles apply. A distant working arrangement may be considered in certain states for US associates who are not within a daily commutable distance (more than 50 miles one way). Distant workers are responsible for the cost of home office expenses and periodic travel/lodging to East Hanover, as determined necessary by hiring manager.

Role Requirements:

  • Advanced degree or combination bachelor's degree with equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years working in global strategy, innovation, or clinical operations role. Specific experience in clinical trials is preferred. Desired experience in US clinical trial market.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills, decision making strength, communication and writing skills.
  • Global matrix people management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership in innovation of pharmaceutical development process and in technical approaches.
  • Ability to influence and direct others within a matrix environment.
  • Comprehensive project management abilities
  • Understanding of drug development process; demonstrated success in planning and executing cross functional projects.
  • Organizational awareness, including significant experience working cross-functionally and in global teams.
  • Superior Strategic thinking skills
  • Excellent communicator and presenter (oral and written), ability to communicate at all levels

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $151,200- $226,800/year; however, while salary ranges are effective from 1/1/24 through 12/31/24, fluctuations in the job market may necessitate adjustments to pay ranges during this period. Further, final pay determinations will depend on various factors, including, but not limited to geographical location, experience level, knowledge, skills, and abilities. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
