Salary for Announcement
The minimum of the pay range for this position is $41,200. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $46,300 - $61,800. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $46,300.
The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
The Program Coordinator for Belonging and Student Engagement is a creative and passionate professional who operates from a lens of understanding and prioritizing mattering and belonging in working with MSU Denver's diverse students. The Program Coordinator provides leadership and support for a blend of in-person and virtual programming and university signature events in the Center for Multicultural Engagement and Inclusion (CMEI).
This key position works across the University and the Auraria campus, and will create, coordinate, and manage a student-led programming board to develop student programs, activities, and engagement opportunities from an equity and inclusion lens. As such, the Program Coordinator is a strategic and student-centered thinker who is skilled at developing effective professional relationships with individuals and departments at MSU Denver and across the Auraria Campus.
The Program Coordinator is charged with embedding belonging and inclusion in co-curricular programs to support and promote equitable retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes for students. This involves close collaboration and synergy with the center staff and partners who intentionally lead programming that affirms and explores identity, builds community, and cultivates leadership among MSU Denver's diverse student populations. The position is expected to deliver culturally conscious, accessible, and inclusive student engagement programs and opportunities that enhance campus life and foster and build University traditions through signature activities. This position reports to the Associate Director of Equity and Racial Justice Programs in the CMEI within the division of Student Engagement and Well-Being.

Duties/Responsibilities
35% - CMEI Co-Curricular Programming
  • Oversees programmatic, operational, financial and evaluative efforts of the student-led programming board and Student Activities Planning events, annual signature programs including contract negotiation, space reservations, and vendor payment.
  • With support of the Associate Director, coordinates the CMEI professional and student staff involvement, budget allocation, and key partnerships for signature events such as but not limited to: Convocation, Welcome Week, and Homecoming, ensuring that the programming centers racial equity, promotes Roadrunner pride, and encourages student sense of belonging.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in the CMEI, Student Affairs, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Athletics, academic Deans, department chairs, and faculty to ensure integration of academic co-curricular programming across the University.
20% - Supervision and Operations
  • Provides excellent supervision for the CMEI undergraduate student event and design team who support program operations and create conditions that empower historically underrepresented student populations at MSU Denver (i.e. Black, African/African American, Asian Pacific Islander Desi Americans, Latinx, Native American, and Indigenous students).
  • Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, and holds student employees accountable to performance expectations.
  • Monitors allocated budget and expenses.
  • Supervise, lead, and delegate a team of student leaders within the programming board, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
20% - Marketing and Promotion
  • Design graphics for publicity and marketing needs of the CMEI in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the quality and sufficiency of publicity through creative and quality output designs for various promotional methods.
  • Develop concepts with sketches, illustrations, photographs, computer manipulation, typography, paper choice, color schemes, etc., with several different styles and budget options.
  • Work with the staff and clients responsible for each program to determine programming vision, ideas, target audience and meet their graphic design needs.
  • Communicate with clients. Maintain contact (email) with every client until their project is completed.
  • Develop comprehensive marketing strategies to promote programming initiatives and increase student engagement.
  • Utilize various communication channels, such as social media, newsletters, and campus platforms, to reach target audiences effectively.
  • Analyze data and metrics to assess the impact of promotional efforts and make data-driven decisions.
15% - Assessment and Reporting
  • Tracks student participation, assesses student learning, and manages data for all relevant program areas, and in other areas related to student engagement, as requested.
  • Regularly communicates and reports on student participation and outcomes; does so with disaggregated information on relevant student demographic characteristics including gender identity and race/ethnicity.

10% - Related Other Duties
  • Actively participates in committees and working groups related to equity and student engagement and supports the development and implementation of equity and diversity education and training on campus.
  • Leads and/or contributes to special projects and/or initiatives, as requested, that relate to equitable student engagement.
  • Participates in training and relevant professional development activities to support professional and/or departmental growth. Works to operationalize and/or integrate learning from these trainings into the work unit and work processes.
  • Is an innovator, a disrupter, and a change agent for racial equity and student engagement. Strives to recognize inequities in the work and in oneself and commits to address them. Seeks out opportunities to take calculated risks in support of a more engaged and equitably supported student community at MSU Denver.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One to three years of experience in coordinating large-scale event planning, student activities, multicultural affairs, or student life with responsibilities for program promotions design and marketing, activities development, and/or implementation.
  • Experience working with underrepresented students specifically, low-income, first-generation, and racially/ethnically diverse students.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Earned Master's Degree in higher education administration, student affairs, education leadership, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing positively to campus-wide equity and social justice outcomes and initiatives.
  • Experience developing and reporting on student learning outcomes.
  • Marketing, promotions, and graphic design experience.
  • Experience managing social media platforms for program marketing and promotion.
  • Experience conducting assessment and program evaluation for improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with social media, web, and graphic design
Work Hours
  • Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm.
  • Some evenings and weekends required. Possible Hybrid Work.
