Job Summary:
This position reports to the Manager of Turbine Engineering and is responsible for assisting the turbine engineering team improve equipment safety, reliability, and performance. The field service engineer will gather information from the field, test equipment, inspect equipment, and develop maintenance procedures with the end goal of improving the reliability and safety of plant equipment.
Essential Functions:
* Perform wind turbine foundation testing and inspections
* Perform drivetrain borescope inspections
* Perform wind turbine tower corrosion inspections
* Perform infrared thermography inspections
* Perform generator and electrical system testing
* Overseeing major turbine component replacements
* Quality control on major turbine component repairs and replacements
* Perform inspections of blades and review blade damage
* Gather data for root cause analysis
* Develop maintenance procedures
* Perform reviews of maintenance procedure effectiveness in the field
* Assist in development and safe use of additional equipment evaluation techniques
* Troubleshoot and maintain testing equipment and tools
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or similar from an ABET-accredited institution
* 0-3 years of relevant technical experience; experience with wind power generation preferred
* Strong working knowledge of wind turbine design, operation, and maintenance
* Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics, diagrams and other common specifications of mechanical systems
* Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams and other common specifications in the electrical power industry
* Good communication skills, including ability to write inspection reports and work instructions
* Ability to be self-motivated, remain focused, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
* Ability to manage priorities in a complex, dynamic environment
* Ability to work with site management teams to ensure the success of projects for the benefit of your internal customers
Physical Demands:
* Ability to climb and work safely at wind turbine heights (200 ft - 300 ft)
* Ability to perform physical tasks including standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting and reaching
* Willingness and ability to travel at least 50%
* Demonstrated ability to operate a motor vehicle and possession of a valid driver's license
