Columbia Power & Water Systems is Hiring a Garage Supervisor Near Columbia, TN

Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) is a public utility proudly serving the citizens of Columbia and Maury County Tennessee since 1939. CPWS is recruiting a Garage Supervisor to repair, maintain, and service CPWS’ utility vehicles and equipment and supervise all Garage personnel. See below for more details on the position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of the Mechanic(s).
  • Plans and sets priorities in the repair and maintenance of CPWS’ utility vehicles and equipment with coordination of the department head. This includes reviewing available inspection logs daily and ensuring Work Orders are created and added to the Garage priorities.
  • Outsources the repair and maintenance of CPWS’ utility vehicles and equipment when in the best interest of CPWS.
  • Ensures all vehicle recalls are performed in a timely manner and schedules recall repairs with perspective department.
  • Enter all purchase orders, work orders, etc. into the computer system.
  • Assists with developing and maintaining vehicle and equipment tagging procedures.
  • Responsible for completing Annual TDOT inspections.
  • Responsible for keeping accurate records of entire CPWS fleet including fleet assignments.
  • Perform and document routine and preventive maintenance on CPWS’ vehicles and equipment.
  • Proactively repair maintenance items and replace worn parts in CPWS’ vehicles and equipment.
  • Ensure that vehicles are safe to operate and operate properly according to CPWS standards. Discuss concerns with department heads prior to a vehicle leaving the yard or vehicle being tagged.
  • Repair, maintain, and keep maintenance records for backup generators for CPWS facilities, including the main building, substations, water plant, and broadband facilities.
  • Install emergency lighting, switches, and decals on CPWS vehicles.
  • Fabricate, weld, and cut materials.
  • Identify mechanical problems either visually, with computer diagnostic equipment, or repair requested by vehicle operator.
  • Prepare CPWS’ vehicles and equipment for inclement weather.
  • Evaluate processes and procedures for efficiencies to minimize vehicle down time due to repairs whether on site or off-site facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Environmental Conditions: Ability to work both inside and outside. Inside: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Outside: Exposed to noisy places and machinery. Exposed to weather that is cold, hot, rainy, and windy.
  • Ability to be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 0 – 100 pounds for 2 hours a day.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 25 pounds for 6 hours a day.
  • Ability to walk.
  • Ability to stand for 8 hours a day.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time.
  • Ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 years of related experience required with a minimum of 1 year of experience overseeing a garage required.
  • Valid Tennessee Class A Commercial Driver’s License required; driving record must meet the requirements to be covered by CPWS liability insurance.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical repair of hydraulic systems, gas and diesel engines, braking systems, and lift device cabling systems required.

Residency Requirement:

  • Must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County due to the position being subject to emergency call-out.

Compensation Package:

CPWS offers competitive compensation and benefits. Highlights of the benefits included in this package are healthcare, dental, and life insurance plans with all premiums funded entirely by the employer. CPWS also offers a 401(k)-retirement plan to all eligible employees after one year of service. The plan allows elective deferrals from 4% to 75% of compensation and CPWS contributes 8% of compensation to the plan.
