Collierville Schools is Hiring a STEM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math) TEACHER Near Collierville, TN

Specific ConsiderationThis position requires a commitment to the appropriate training needed paid for by the district to teach the course.
Essential FunctionsThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Provide an interdisciplinary problem-based curriculum that includes a focus on real world application
Provide a classroom setting that encourages students to work independently and collaboratively in an inquiry-based environment that encourages students to find creative solutions to authentic and complex problems
Support student use of technology resources to conduct research, demonstrate creative and critical thinking, and communicate and work collaboratively
Collaborate with other STEM educators as an inter-disciplinary team to plan, implement, and improve integrated STEM learning experiences
Develops and administers specific performance based assessments for the purpose of demonstrating students? STEM literacy necessary for the next level of STEM learning
Participate in a continuous program of STEM-specific professional learning
Maintains a complete inventory of all items in the lab and reports needs to the Curriculum & Accountability Department
Liaison to the Curriculum and Accountability Department for all Science, Math, STEM needs/information
Will serve as the point person for all STEM related clubs in the assigned building
Supports other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans
Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan
Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment
Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, harassment, zero tolerance offenses etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to state law and board policies
Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
Directs teacher assistants, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students
Supports other classroom teachers for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of established curriculum and/or individual student plans
Demonstrates and models on a regular basis the integration of technology in all curriculum areas
Follows a plan for professional technology development and actively seeks out opportunities to grow professionally
The STEM teacher also serves at the Robotics Sponsor for the assigned school
Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
Minimum QualificationsRequires a Bachelor's degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate
Must be highly qualified
Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the Tennessee Board of Education
Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference, descriptive, and/or advisory data and information.
Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems, philosophies, laws, regulations, and procedures; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives
Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria and the goals and priorities of planning and development programs.
Ada CompliancePhysical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (up to 50 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
