CSS Tech I- Responsible for receiving, decontamination, sterilizing, storing, and distributing all instruments handled by Sterile Processing. Assembles and disassembles case carts.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.

• Previous Hospital experience, Preferred.

The Sterile Processing program teaches students to prepare and clean surgical instruments and devices needed for surgery and use in a healthcare facility. Students are required to complete a 400-hour in-person sterile processing experience as part of this program, which will require a commitment of approximately 16-20 hours per week. Students are eligible to take the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) sponsored by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) exam upon completion of the didactic coursework and must do so 6 months before sitting for the exam.

About the department:

Performing an average of 7,000 cases each year, the Operating Room at SMJH has 8 OR suites and offers a variety of service lines including Complex GYN, Neurosurgery, Vascular/Thoracic and Orthopedic surgery. It is also the 2nd highest-performing OR in the Sentara system for Orthopedic total joint procedures.
