Summary: Under general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor I, the Crew Chief assigns, monitors, and participates in the work of staff involved in the construction, installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of District buildings, grounds, systems and properties. The position gives day-to-day direction and serves as the technical expert for an assigned maintenance crew.

• Participates in the construction, installation, renovation, maintenance and repair of District facilities by utilizing tools, materials and/or equipment appropriate to the maintenance trade
• Performs skilled journey level work for the assigned trade
• Leads and serves as the technical expert for an assigned crew; Guides, directs and coach others regarding application and interpretation of technical trade issues
• Plans, priorities and assigns the work tasks of crew members
• Instructs crew members in the proper work methods and standards; monitors crew work quality; insures adherence to time schedules and safe work practices, provides performance feedback and input into performance evaluations
• Identifies areas needing repairs and maintenance and takes corrective action
• Maintains accurate records of material and costs.
• Provides input on the selection of crew members
• May on occasion assist the Supervisor with getting quotes for contract assignments
• Performs related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

Minimum

• High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized training in the assigned trade
• 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in the assigned trade

Desired

• High School Diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized training in the assigned trade
• 7 years of increasingly responsible experience in the assigned trade

Licensing / Certification Requirements:

• Painting
• Carpentry
• Grounds: Valid driver's class "A" CDL restricted license; Possession of NCDA&CS Certified License with Turf endorsement, or ability to obtain within 18 months of hire; NCDA&CS Registered Technician card or Certified Applicator card with P phase
