Compensation - $55,000 - $75,000

Position Summary:

The Grant Accountant monitors, analyzes, audits and reports on the financial activity for a wide variety of grant programs contracted with federal, state, and local agencies, private foundations, and other private & public organizations.

Specific Duties:

  • Assists with financial accounting functions to ensure accurate recording and reporting of agency and grant financial information.
  • Displays accounting software application proficiency and ability to adapt available features to analyze financial transactions utilizing accounting software and MS Excel.
  • Meets with Program Director and finance team members when grants are awarded to review responsibilities for grant management and reporting. Maintains a positive and proactive relationship throughout the grant to ensure responsibilities are met.
  • Monitors financial performance of grants vs budgets and discusses and communicates trends as they occur to the Director of Finance.
  • Properly records grant income and expenses and monitors general ledger activity for related programs.
  • Develops and runs reports to monitor and track assigned grant financial & budget performance. Provides timely financial performance reports to program leadership.
  • Prepares accurate, timely, periodic (monthly, quarterly, annual, ad hoc) invoices/vouchers and/or financial reports as required by grantors.
  • Reconciles interim and final financial reports. Verifies final financial reports with Director of Finance and Program leaders.
  • Works with finance and program leadership on grants fiscal year projections.
  • Assists and supports finance department with proper general ledger reporting.
  • Complies with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Properly codes and monitors documents according to procedures.
  • Assists with budgets, audits and account reconciliations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience.
  • Three (3) years of Accounting experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and grants management procedures.
  • Excellent problem solving, accuracy, attention to detail, organization, and follow through.
  • Fund accounting skills and ability to understand and analyze complex financial transactions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local, state & federal grant reporting requirements.
  • Ability to exercise and interpret policy and fiscal guidelines.
  • Accounting software application proficiency.
  • Spreadsheet proficiency and advanced skills using Microsoft Excel and MS suite of applications.
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to multitask in completing work.
