The IU School of Medicine has an exciting Postdoctoral Fellow opportunity in the laboratory led by Drs. Magdalena Czader and Chunhai Charlie Hao in the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Drs. Czader and Hao collaborate in targeted protein degradation (TPD) for discovery of small-molecule glues as the new anticancer drugs for treatment of leukemia. The team has developed the first small-molecule degraders of SUMO1 protein with the current efforts focusing on the development of SUMO1 degraders as the first-in-class anticancer drugs for treatment of patients diagnosed with cancers including leukemia. The team has developed TPD platform for discovery of small-molecule degraders of other oncoproteins.

This recruit will join the team in development of small molecule degraders as the first-in-class anticancer drugs for treatment of leukemia and other cancers. Experimental approaches being used in the lab include culture, flow cytometry, protein western blots, immunoprecipitation, genomic CRISPR/Cas9, MS/MS proteomic, protein complex structure technologies such as NMR and CRYO-EM and medicinal chemistry in computer-aided and AI-powered drug design and synthesis. The team has cell culture and animal models of various cancers including leukemia samples collected from patients.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to attend and present his/her work in national and international meetings.

The position is funded by NIH grant and available for an initial appointment of one year, renewable for subsequent years.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences.

* Strong background and PhD training either in cancer biology, molecular biology, or biochemistry are required.

* Training and research experience in leukemia is a plus, but not necessary.

* Experience in animal studies is not required but it is necessary that candidates can and are willing to work with animals.

* Strong commitment to experimental bench research is expected.

* Naturally collaborative and self-motivated style is necessary to work effectively in this multidisciplinary and integrated team
