AGENCY BACKGROUND:
MercyFirst is a not-for-profit human and social service agency that has been serving children and families in need since we were founded by the Sisters of Mercy/Hermanas de las Misericordia in 1894. Today our agency continues to address the emotional and physical needs of children and families in Brooklyn, Queens and across Long Island through innovative treatments and life-changing interventions. We provide community-based prevention and family foster care services, group homes in the community for struggling children and families within the child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and short-term residential services for unaccompanied migrant children. Each year, MercyFirst serves more than 3,000 children, teenagers and families overcome enormous obstacles, re-imagine their futures and develop their full potential.PROGRAM BACKGROUND:

The children in this specialized group home (named Catherine House) are girls, ages 14-17, who have experienced serious trauma, often including physical and emotional abuse, neglect and abandonment. In our small group home, we can give each youth individual attention and focus on providing a wide array of services, clinical therapies including art therapy and appropriate recreation opportunities all in a setting where the youth can thrive. Our goal is to help our children heal from the past while learning the skills needed for their future.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Program Manager is responsible for the operation of the living unit. Supervises and provides a safe and secure environment and applies Agency approved methods of behavior modification, including the point system, verbal de-escalation techniques and physical intervention, if needed. Shifts assigned may vary and change according to Agency needs. This position reports to the Asst Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Related Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of related experience or a High School Diploma/equivalent with 5 years of residential care experience
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Ability and willingness to be available to respond to needs during evenings and weekends
  • Must successfully complete all required training
  • Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s Mission, core values, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusivity, and Belonging (DEIB).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for our youth
  • Maintain consistent daily routines of the living unit in accordance with Agency policy and treatment plan
  • Supervise clients’ attendance/participation at structured activities (i.e. school, reaction, chores, meals)

  • Keep appropriate staff informed of the relevant information and incidents within assigned unit.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of human development stages
  • Participate as member of treatment team
  • Ensure proper scheduling of YSC I and II staff and monitor same
  • Report behaviors believed to be symptomatic or emotional, physical or psychological disturbances
  • Document clients’ behaviors and activities
  • Hire, train, supervise and monitor the performance of assigned staff.
  • Review daily logs, accident reports, incident reports, etc.
  • Complete payroll tasks in a timely manner.
  • Implement and monitor all residents’ behavior management programs, residents’ allowance and savings, and unit expenses.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries

Salary Range:
$55,000 - $60,000 per year
$1500 Hiring bonus after 500 worked hours
