Job Description:
The Director of Professional Development Education will oversee administration of the veterinary professional development educational stream in the DVM program. The Director of Professional Development Education will instruct in communication skills and professionalism and ensure alignment of instructional methods and assessments with DVM outcomes in professional development.
60% Instruct in communication skills and professional development (lecture and laboratory) across all years of the curriculum.
20% Oversee administration of the veterinary professional development curriculum in the DVM program. Course coordination or facilitation of courses across Phase I. Identify individuals who can support the professional development curriculum. Work with the educational team to develop and maintain rubrics for evaluation of students regarding communication skills. Maintain up to date Moodle pages and syllabi. Responsible for finalizing grades and/or communication with course coordinators.
10% Train faculty and staff in instruction and evaluation of communication skills and professionalism. Develop and lead faculty and staff programs to enhance skills across different team members of LSU Vet Med. Work with the Office of Inclusive Excellence to facilitate topic presentations that align with community goals.
5% Develop an understanding of the skills needed in the veterinary profession through participation in local, regional, and national continuing education and committees.
5% Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Professor: DVM or equivalent
Specific experience: Teaching experience in communication skills and/or professional development.
Associate Professor: DVM or equivalent with a minimum 5 years of clinical experience with a strong teaching component.
Specific experience: Teaching experience in communication skills and/or professional development.
Professor: DVM or equivalent with a minimum of 8 years of clinical experience with a strong teaching component.
Specific experience: Teaching experience in communication skills and/or professional development.

Preferred Qualifications:
DVM with more than 7 years of experience
Specific experience: Teaching experience in medical education (human or Veterinary)
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Physical Requirements-Required to be cable of lifting up to 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, vision near sight, vision far sight, able to reach below the shoulder, pushing, pulling, grasping, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
Safety and Security Sensitive Job - Safety and security-sensitive positions are defined as those positions where any form of substance abuse may affect University activities through unsafe work behavior/performance or error in judgment; or where substance abuse could jeopardize the safety and well-being of employees, other personnel, or the general public, or cause significant damage to University property. This includes positions requiring firearms, access to controlled substances, handling hazardous material, operating heavy equipment or machinery, etc. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality.
