Position SummaryThe School Bus Driver is responsible for ensuring the safe transportation of Pingry students to and from the school's campuses for daily arrival and departure and school trips. The position may also require weekend trips or other transportation needs. The role reports directly to the Operations Officer for Transportation Coordinator within the Department of Operations and serves multiple members of the Pingry community, including students, employees, Auxiliary Programs, and Athletics.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Pingry School is seeking to fill three Bus Driver positions: one 12-month and two 10-month roles. These positions are responsible for transportation operations across all three of Pingry's campuses located in Basking Ridge, Short Hills, and Pottersville, NJ. As stewards of the school's resources, reputation, and community safety, Operations Officers must be visible and personable. They are expected to work a split shift on weekdays, which involves a standard morning route between 6:30 and 8:30 am, a regular afternoon route between 2:30 and 6:30 pm, and mid-day routes on an as-needed basis to support off-campus programming. Hourly pay for the position covers pre and post-trip inspections, including thirty minutes before scheduled departure and thirty minutes after returning to campus. Additionally, the Operations Officer for Transportation is responsible for maintaining Pingry's vehicle fleet.
Qualifications

• Commercial Driver's License (CDL): Applicants must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. (Pingry will support the Training & Certification if necessary)
• Excellent Motor Vehicle Commission history (current Driver's Abstract)
• Candidates must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting process. This is to ensure the safety of the students and school staff.
• Candidates must be First Aid and CPR certified (Pingry will support the Training & Certification if necessary.)
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff. They should be able to provide clear instructions and maintain a professional demeanor.
• Ability to remain patient and calm while dealing with various situations, such as traffic, student behavior, and emergencies.
• Ability to make quick decisions responding to changing road conditions, weather, and student safety concerns.
• Drivers must adhere to schedules, maintain punctuality, and ensure students arrive at school and return home on time.
• Prior experience working with children, whether in a school setting or other capacity, is preferred
• Demonstrated track record in upkeeping credentials necessary to operate a commercial vehicle
• Ability to proactively identify and resolve operational problems and conflicts as they arise.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs.
• Prior experience with Google business applications, notably Gmail and Google Calendar, and an ability to quickly understand and master various web-based computer applications such as Veracross, Ruvna, and ADP.
• Ability to exhibit a strong sense of integrity and professionalism in their work. They should be reliable, responsible, and trustworthy, ensuring the safety and well-being of the students in their care. This includes adhering to policies and procedures, maintaining confidentiality, and conducting themselves ethically in all situations.
