Aiken County Public Schools is Hiring a Dispatcher/Secretary Near Aiken, SC

Position Title: Dispatcher/Secretary
Department: Maintenance and Operations
Reports To: Foreman
FLSA Status: Non- Exempt
SummaryProvides secretarial and dispatch services for the Office of Director of Maintenance and Operations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Performs general clerical/communication duties.
  • Receives all maintenance requests and calls.
  • Makes decisions of urgency. Prioritizes and forwards requests to appropriate foreman, personnel or other people, as required.
  • Maintains high level of computer skills essential in completing job duties.
  • Operates standard office equipment.
  • Assists in office operations, accounting and procedures.
  • Prepares district courier schedule and helps with implementation.
  • Types, gathers information, prepares, distributes, files records/reports, prepares correspondence, and prepares mailings related to department’s function and needs, including monthly reports.
  • Orders, processes, and maintains office materials and equipment.
  • Prepares requisitions for office supplies and disbursement encumbrances.
  • Maintains district radio base station.
  • Prepares Worker’s Compensation and accident claims for the department.
  • Promotes safety practices for the department.
  • Works with Administrators and schools regarding scheduling of maintenance needs/issues.
  • Assists in computerized HVAC energy management systems, by setting up, maintaining, and scheduling systems.
  • Reviews and posts all work orders, both completed and in progress.
  • Maintains all personnel and payroll reports, records and organizational charts.
  • Assists Administration and schools in emergencies, including weather tests.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED). Knowledge of maintenance terminology. One year of secretarial or office experience or training.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNone
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of district.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to interpret and apply common sense understanding in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in a situation where only limited standardization exists.
OTHER SKILLS And ABILITIESAbility to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees of the district and the community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
