Department/Group: Athletic Department Job Description: The Athletic Trainer will provide health services to the student/athletes as needed. The Equipment Manager will oversee the distribution and collection of uniforms and equipment. Job Summary:The Athletic Trainer will provide for the care and treatment of the Yorktown student-athletes as needed. He/she will assist with concussion protocols for all student-athletes and impliment physical fitness strategies to enhance the student/athletes participation in sports programs. The Athletic Trainer will assist with certifying coaches in First Aid, CPR/AED as mandated through NYS Coaching requirements. He/she should have the ability to work cooperatively with the Athletic Director, Administrators, Strength & Conditioning-AT, Coaches, Students and Parents. The candidate must be able to assist with and oversee Impact Testing and Concussion protocols for the department in accordance with district and state policies.
The Athletic Trainer will assist with the collection and distribution of uniforms and equipment for the districts sports teams. He/she will assist with the organization, inventory, distribution and collection of such uniforms and equipment.
Minimum QualificationsMinimum 3-5 years experience in the field of Athletic Training.
NYS Certification as an Athletic Trainer
Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR or EMT certificate
Primary Activities
  • Establish and implement a program for the purpose of minimizing injuries which includes preventative and follow up care, conditioning programs, judicious equipment selection, athletic activity safety checks, and determination of physical fitness for participation in intended activities.
  • Conduct initial evaluation following an injury and make decisions regarding the management of the injury.
  • Provide student/athletes, coaches, school staff and parents with information regarding sound health habits, injury care and prevention practices; weight and pre-conditioning training.
  • Assist the school physician and school nurse in ensuring that all student athletes have been examined and pre-screened prior to sports participation.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed records on student/athlete's to include 'Accident Reports' and 'Concussion Screening'.
  • Coordinate with Athletic Assistant in updating Coaching Certification of First Aid/CPR & AED.
  • Maintain/update inventory for Athletic Training Supplies - order supplies in conjunction with Athletic Department Assistant.
  • Maintain Athletic Training Equipment and arrange for servicing when needed.
  • Coordinate with school nurse to inform coaches on status of injured athletes return to play.
  • Performs other duties consistent with the position assigned.
  • Coordinate uniform distribution, and collection for reconditioning. Maintain/update inventory of all uniforms specific to sport, level and gender.

  • Is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Is regularly required to climb, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to reach above the head and reach forward.
  • Is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to talk and hear.
  • At times, required to work at a height of 20’ or more off the ground in order to perform job duties.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or push up to 75 pounds.
  • Must have specific vision abilities for close vision, distance vision, depth perception and tell the difference between colors
Work Environment
  • The noise level in the work environment is typical for a school athletic environment.
  • The Athletic Trainer continuously interacts with the public and other staff and frequently meets multiple demands from several people.
  • Work generally performed both indoors and outdoors.
Salary: $65,000 - $85,000
