JOB SUMMARY:
Leads the clinical team in supporting the physician to provide medical care to patients of the orthopaedic and/or pain clinic. Functions as a resource and leader for questions, concerns and assignment of responsibilities relating to the specific physician. Oversees the day-to-day operations of the team. Ensures the patients’ electronic medical records are maintained accurately and efficiently. Provides exceptional customer service to the patient, patients’ family as well as colleagues.

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, hours between 7:30am-5:00pm

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
• High School Diploma or its equivalent required.
• Graduate of an accredited business school or college with focus in medical assisting preferred.
Qualifications:
• Level I:
• Medical Assistant certification required.
• Level II:
• Current license by the State of Pennsylvania as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support.
• Two years of experience working in a medical practice or hospital setting as a Medical Assistant preferred.
• Must have basic computer skills and the ability to effectively and accurately use the electronic medical records system.
• Independent judgment necessary to work in accordance with department practices and general directives received by Clinical Operations Coordinator and/or Clinical Operations Manager.
• Effective and efficient organization and time management skills required.
• Excellent communication skills, which frequently involve collaborating with physicians, management/leadership and other organizational personnel required.
• Must be able to work independently and utilize time management, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
• Must have the ability to stand and walk for up to eighty percent of work time when performing job assignments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Must be able to perform all essential duties and responsibilities of a Clinical Specialist II as outlined in the Clinical Specialist II job description.
• Serves as a resource and leader for team members including physician.
• Anticipates physician needs to assure efficient clinical office functioning, including lunch delegation and/or end of day delegation.
• Collaborates with medical secretary regarding patient care plans.
• Communicates significant clinical issues, consistent with the organizational policies, procedures, guidelines and mission, to the Clinical Operations Coordinator and/or Clinical Operations Manager.
• Oversees the Clinical Team including work allocation, general performance (efficiency issues), competency and accountability.
• Participates in new employee training, specifically focusing on team specific requirements and orienting the new team member to same.
• Participates in implementation of policies, procedures and protocols for the clinical area as specifically related to team functions.
• Remains accessible to other clinical teams for staffing issues when directed by the Clinical Operations Coordinator and/or Clinic Operations Manager.
• Assures clinical working area (pod) is stocked and efficient.
• Clinical Duties include but may not be limited to:
• Calls post-operative patients to check on their status.
• Assists secretaries with verification of surgical schedule for week.
• Assures preparation for next clinical day including:
• Report Results.
• Film/Reports.
• Receives /Returns Patient Phone Calls.
• Monitors to-do/triage list daily.
• Prepares surgical folders for upcoming surgical patients.
• Opens exam rooms and prepares for the day (unlock cabinets, start computers, etc).
• Assures end of day duties are completed.
• Acts as an agent for licensed provider.
• Level II:
• Maintains security of the secured medication closet and is responsible for maintaining an accurate medication log.
• Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTIES:
No direct reports, however serves as the point of contact for the team to which assigned. Guides the other team members in priorities, assignments, etc.




LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must be proficient in the English language, both verbally and written, in order to communicate effectively with patients, co-workers, physicians, vendors, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Moderate physical effort when working in patient care environment consisting of standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, and stooping. Moderate sitting and keyboarding along with fine and gross motor skills and manual dexterity to operate keyboard and other equipment. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Must be able to respond quickly and effectively to an emergency. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Climate controlled environment with occasional periods of being outside.
