Summary Description :
The Upper School Counselor works with Upper School students (Grades
9-12, plus postgraduates). The Upper School Counselor provides
short-term individual and group counseling, evaluation, and
intervention to students in the Upper School. He or she also provides
guidance to administrators, faculty, and parents on developmental,
cognitive, and psycho-social issues of adolescents. The Counselor
collaborates closely with the Director of Upper School, the school’s
consulting psychologist, the school’s consulting nurse psychiatric
nurse prescriber, and members of the Upper School Health Team on
matters pertaining to the emotional health, safety, and overall
well-being of students
Essential Functions :
Provides short term individual and group counseling, evaluation,
and intervention to students in the Upper School.
Advisor to the Upper School Faculty, Health Team, and
administration regarding the emotional health and well-being of the
Upper School.
Refers families to and collaborates with outside mental health
providers in order to support students’ mental health and academic success.
Create and Teach occasional classes in the Upper School Health and
Wellness Curriculum
Provides Crisis Intervention and Assessment as needed.
Additional Responsibilities :
Member of Student Support Team
Make recommendations to the Director of Counseling regarding
protocols and procedures within the department
Network with members of other school counseling programs
Attend relevant workshops and conferences and encourage colleagues
to attend applicable workshops with you.
Experience and Skills:
Qualifications :
Education
Master degree and licensed or license eligible in the mental
health/school-counseling field.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with adolescents in a
mental health setting.
Experience working in a school setting, preferably in an
independent school.

The Upper School Counselor is supervised by the Director of Counseling
Physical Demands

• The ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time
• The ability to travel around campus as needed
