Overview and Responsibilities

Saint Mary’s University is seeking Faculty members in the Psychology department who are eager to contribute to Saint Mary’s Lasallian Catholic mission of awakening, nurturing, and empowering learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. We invite individuals to help transform lives through education, inspired by the Catholic Intellectual Tradition’s quest to understand the human experience through faithand reason, and its embrace of all who are dedicated to learning from one another through authentic conversations in search of the truth. We are especially interested in and give preference to candidates who demonstrate a vision to create and nurture initiatives that will advance our mission within the scope of their duties and who will foster a culture of dialogue that, with respect for all people, supports thesearch for meaning and purpose in pursuit of excellence.

Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota invites candidates to apply for one of two faculty positions in the Psychology and Social Sciences Department, beginning in August 2024. This position is located on our Winona campus and is an on-site position. In addition to the Psychology B.A. and minor, the department offers B.A. programs in Criminal Justice-Corrections and Criminal Justice-Law Enforcement, and a minor in Criminal Justice. Some 100- and 200-level psychology courses serve Health Humanities, Nursing, Pre-Physician Assistant, and Allied Health (e.g., pre-PT, pre-OT) B.A. programs.

We are seeking faculty who share a deep commitment to development of the whole person through classwork, advising, research, and applied opportunities. We wish to find colleagues who work to meet students where they are, and to challenge and support them to reach new levels of excellence. We want fellow department members who nurture and empower students to develop and practice high level skillsinspired by personal values and professional ethics.

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Psychology and documented teaching excellence characterized by relationship-rich learning environments that generate transformative learning in on-ground courses. The ideal candidate will demonstrate enthusiasm about teaching and learning in on-ground, online, and experiential learning. Candidates should understand and value the department’s strategic commitment to our Lasallian Catholic mission and to American Psychological Association outcomes for undergraduate education in Psychology.

The standard teaching load for the position is 22 - 24 credit hours per August - May contract year. Faculty will teach General Psychology and other foundational courses, the development of upper-level topics and seminar courses, and support student research and/or internship opportunities consistent with the candidate’s expertise. Faculty are encouraged to facilitate Collaborative Research Lab with undergraduate students. Teaching and research or applied work in the following areas of psychology are preferred:

  • Clinical/counseling
  • Developmental psychology
  • Criminal justice
  • Cognitive psychology
  • Cross cultural psychology

Candidates are expected to support the Lasallian Catholic mission of the University to awaken, nurture, and empower learners to ethical lives of service and leadership. Department faculty members work closely with each student and provide feedback that fosters growth toward their utmost potential in individual and collaborative endeavors.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following credentials and experience:

  • A doctoral/terminal degree in Psychology is preferred. ABD will be considered with evidence ofsuccessful teaching.
  • Willingness to teach foundational courses at the 100- and 200-level. Experience teaching at thislevel is preferred.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas is a plus: clinical/counseling psychology,, developmental psychology, criminal justice, cognitive psychology, and/or cross cultural psychology.
  • Willingness to collaborate with students on ongoing research projects.
  • Experience in higher education teaching, and advising or mentoring, is required.
  • Willingness to engage in online teaching, course development and student advising experienceis preferred.
