State of North Carolina is Hiring a Teacher Assistant Near Wilson, NC

This position is located at 1311 US Hwy 301 South, Wilson, NC 27893
The Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf (ENCSD) is a state school serving the 54 easternmost counties that provides a specialized learning environment for deaf and hard of hearing students, kindergarten through 12th grade, following a typical school calendar. The ENCSD offers students an academic setting with standards-based instruction, low classroom ratios, career and vocational skills development, current technology, and an overall accessible environment for learning through American Sign Language. A boarding program is available for enrolled students residing outside of Wilson County. The ENCSD seeks to promote both intentional and experiential learning to provide continued advancement in student academic achievement and social/emotional well-being.
The major purpose of this position is to provide paraprofessional instructional activities with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in one or more of the following areas: linguistic development, motor skills, self-help, social-emotional, prevocational, pre-academic, academic, health, hygienic, cognitive and/or behavioral in K-12 program working directly with and under the direction the classroom teacher and supervised by the School Principal.
This position is mandatory/essential to school operations and is a 10-month position that follows the ENCSD school calendar.
Demonstrated ability in establishing rapport with students
Demonstrated familiarity with the basic principles of the instructional process
Demonstrated ability in assisting the teacher in maintaining an environment favorable to learning.
Management preference: Ability to communicate using American Sign Language

through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a

Note on Education and Experience Equivalency:

Equivalency can go both ways. If a job has a minimum education and experience of associate degree and two years’ experience, someone with a bachelor's degree could qualify.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of experience working with students in an educational environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pre-employment drug testing and criminal background checks are required for all positions at Eastern NC School for the Deaf.

Applicants seeking National Guard preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS) if they are a current member of the NC National Guard. If an applicant is a former NC National Guard Member who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, they must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22 along with their State application.

Applicants with degrees not conferred at a United States college or university must attach a degree verification that their degree is equivalent to a similar degree form a US institution.
