Island Montessori is Hiring a Special Education Teacher Near Wilmington, NC

Responsibilities:

  • Exhibit knowledge and facilitate the IEP process from Student Support Team to referral to Eligibility determination and placement.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs and abilities of students according to the student’s present levels of academic achievement and functional performance.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to grade level appropriate learning of students considering cognitive, sensory, and physical abilities and limitations and following the Montessori Principles.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of goals and objectives as stated in the IEP through the student’s present levels of academic achievement and functional performance.
  • Employ a variety of scientifically research-based instructional methods, best practices and materials appropriate for meeting stated curricular and IEP goals and objectives.
  • Assess and maintain data of the academic achievement and functional growth and development of students on a consistent basis and provide required progress reports.
  • Identify the learning needs of students (academic achievement and functional) through consistent data collection and seek the assistance of specialists (curriculum coordinators, program specialists, related services personnel, etc.) if required.
  • Cooperate with staff members (general education and related services personnel) in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Be available to consult and collaborate with colleagues, students, and/or parents on a regular basis for education related purposes.
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and professional relations and attitude with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Provide for own professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning, both through general education and special education.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Perform such other tasksand assumes responsibilities as assigned by the administrative team.
