Here's what you'd do:

• Responsible for planning, layout, setup, operating, and making tool adjustments for 3-axis and manual milling and lathes.
• Other responsibilities include conventional or automatic machines for forming metal.
• Works from blueprints, process sheets, and sketches to perform production tasks, including cutting and shaping metal and plastics to precision dimensions.
• Checks, inspects and builds machining operations against specified tolerances.
• It will also include working with interference pining of optical components, lapping materials to 4-place decimals, installing and repairing Heli coils, drilling and tapping, machine hardware, and assemblies.
• We will use Acu-rite controls on milling centers.
• It is also recommended that materials and designs of fixturing and tooling be used and improved.
• Program using Acu-rite control and accurately set up and operate milling and lathe machines.
• Press fit various diameter pins of optical hardware.
• Maintains the tools and machines needed for optimum job performance.
• Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to prepare machinery work.
• Monitors the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
• Understands and complies with customer specifications in part manufacturing.
• Understands and uses various mathematical functions applicable to work tasks.
• Other duties, such as facilities work or continuous improvement projects, may also be assigned.
• Highly developed support individual contributor.
• Works autonomously.
• May act as a mentor to lower-level peers and guide tasks.
• Makes recommendations for solutions.
• Works on assignments requiring judgment and initiative.
• Communicates with contacts typically within and outside the department on matters that involve obtaining or providing information requiring explanation or interpretation to understand and reach an agreement.

• Associate Degree.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
• Uses knowledge and experience to resolve issues.
• Ability to set up and run a vertical machining center for one-off prototype or production parts run.
• Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and precision instruments such as micrometers, indicators, and calipers.
