About the role:
The CAPS School Counselor provides services in Westminster, Massachusetts. Counselors provide students with a variety of services that support their access to the academic curriculum, strengthen social-emotional learning and foster independence. This candidate will understand how to foster therapeutic relationships with students and their families. They will possess knowledge and expertise of typical and atypical intellectual, social, and emotional development and facilitate the services for student learning, behavioral, and emotional needs.
Responsibilities:
• Join existing team of 2 counselors to support students in grades K - 8 • Provide individual and/or group short-term counseling for students outlined in the CASEL standards • Familiarity with CBT • Serve as a liaison between families and the school to promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students. • Provide crisis intervention services for students • Collaborate with school staff to develop and implement therapeutic strategies to effect changes in social-emotional-behavioral interactions of students. • Provide consultation to parents/guardians, teachers, and staff on identified issues related to students' needs, programming, discipline and safety. • Serve as liaison with community agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community leaders. • Refer students and parents/guardians to appropriate community resources • Experience working with students who identify as LGBTQI population, engage in substance abuse, and trauma reactive students. • Serve on school-based committees to address educational issues, attendance avoidance, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development for students. • Provide staff consultation on issues affecting student participation in the learning process. • Write IEP goals and progress reports and participate in the IEP process. • Conduct social skills groups related to appropriate topics and students' social and emotional needs. • Maintain required records and conform to school and state regulations/guidelines
