Western Springs School District 101 is Hiring a Director of Maintenance Near Western, IL

Position Summary:The Director of Maintenance is responsible for the management, planning and administration of maintenance, construction, and safety programming for all district facilities and property. Work assures safe, operational excellence of the physical and environmental climate; promoting full instructional use of all district facilities. This position ensures that physical operation of facilities and grounds meet district’s budget and strategic objectives.

Qualification Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in custodial/maintenance/trades supervision. School District experience preferred.
  • Experience in construction and/or property management.
  • Previous experience in the management or oversight of capital improvement projects preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within district.
  • Able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Ability to perform physical work, as needed, across domains.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in demanding situations.
  • ​Ability to operate , maintain and repair HVAC, plumbing, electricical and mechanical systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, supervises, and evaluates the work of outside vendors involved in the custodial and maintenance activities on school properties and related facilities.
  • Develops, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systems.
  • Determines and develops the proper action to effectively and expeditiously complete repairs in accordance with district policy, sound maintenance practices, and priority/urgency of operations.
  • Conducts routine and periodic inspections of schools and facilities to insure proper maintenance and a safe environment for all district facilities.
  • Schedules and supervises maintenance workers engaged in building and grounds upkeep and repair; responsible for safety and security, electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning, energy management, and ventilation services.
  • Prioritizes and performs necessary work on maintenance requests.
  • Develops and manages facilities budget including procurement, requests for proposal, bids, purchase orders, and reimbursements; verifies the accuracy and accountability for compliance of all local, state and federal laws.
  • Prepares specifications for physical plant projects; estimates costs of equipment, materials,
  • labor, and supplies; prepares bid specifications for projects (as appropriate), equipment, and contracted services; oversees site and building projects performed by outside contractors.
  • Supervises building and grounds maintenance inventory control activities.
  • Provides in-service and safety training for maintenance, custodial, and grounds personnel on new equipment, safety standards, and work methods.
  • Develops annual priority list for summer projects.
  • Ensures the proper disposal of hazardous and controlled wastes in compliance with regulations and guidelines; works directly with outside agencies such as OSHA and local and state health departments as required.
  • Prepares legal reports required by District, Federal, State and outside agencies.
  • Shares emergency readiness response duties for 24 hour operational needs.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Exposure to noise and activity of a school setting, an office setting and that of a construction site. Exposure to weather conditions. Ability to travel outside the district for a variety of meetings and conferences. The employee must be able to frequently operate a computer and other office equipment as well as verbally communicate and accurately comprehend information.
