City of Weslaco is Hiring a CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR Near Weslaco, TX

Job Summary
Performs construction management duties, construction inspections and quality assurance of public works and development projects related to general improvements. Ensure compliance with City standards, regulations, codes, designs, and specification requirements. Also responsible for the inspection and approval of all newly constructed city roads, curb and gutters, water, sanitary sewer, storm lines, manholes and fire hydrants. Employee is required to perform all engineering duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
  • Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends).
  • Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
  • Schedule inspections of all new utility construction projects.
  • Provides daily and monthly reports on project progress of construction work and any areas of non-compliance with regulations and standards.
  • Inspects and reviews projects during construction to monitor conformance with approved plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations (quality of work and materials used).
  • Handle multiple projects with varying degrees of complexity under pressure of deadlines.
  • Reviews and attends to meeting to discuss plans and specifications on construction projects.
  • Prepares and maintains project files with photographs of the inspected construction areas.
  • Identify and report inquiries, potential hazards, problem areas and all work activities to immediate supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
  • Must have High School diploma, or equivalent (GED); Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of related work experience to perform such job.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen at City's expense.
  • Applicant must have current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
  • Must successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within first three months of hire date.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Read and understand site plans, evaluation measurements and GPS surveys.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Must possess the physical ability to move around an active construction site.
  • Problem-solving.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and safety regulations related to construction sites.
  • Documentation and record keeping.
  • Proficient oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of laws, codes, precedents government regulations, City, state, and federal standards, designs and specifications.
  • Knowledge of construction methods and technologies, and ability to interpret technical drawings.
  • Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques to examine workmanship and materials and detect deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office software.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
Exposure to intermittent machines, odors, chemical fumes, dust, smoke, heat, cols, oil, dirt, or grease. Work may involve general cleaning, occasional work at heights or in confined or cramped quarters. Includes outdoor work under unpleasant weather conditions that are hardly suspended .
