Position Overview

As an ophthalmic technician at See Vision Eye Institute, you will play a critical role as a partner of our medical team in delivering excellent patient care and supporting our surgical ophthalmology practice. You are responsible for obtaining the patient’s goals, performing the initial workup and diagnostic testing, and documenting important medical information for the provider. The ophthalmic technician serves a pivotal role on the team, and prides him/herself in collaborating with our providers to meet the patient’s goals.

Key Responsibilities and Deliverables as an Ophthalmic Technician

Team Player and Collaboration

• Maintains open and transparent communication with team members, fostering an environment where ideas, concerns, and feedback are freely shared and respected. Always avoids gossip!
• Approaches challenges as opportunities for collective problem-solving, seeking input from team members to find innovative solutions.

Clinical Care

• Conducts thorough and complete patient workups, including medical histories, and essential clinical and diagnostic testing that supports the patients’ diagnoses and treatment planning.
• Provides essential support to the provider, enabling the highest level of patient safety and care.
• Adheres to legal and ethical standards of healthcare, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
• Participates in all facets of the patient care journey as needed.
• Focuses on all practice KPIs designed to measure quality and productivity standards.

Patient Experience and Education

• Takes personal responsibility for treating patients as family members, ensuring that each patient has a positive experience.
• Works with the team to maintain efficient patient flow, ensuring that appointments and procedures are conducted promptly while upholding quality standards.
• Removes obstacles and friction from the patient experience, ensuring that patients are never given a job.
• Guides the patient through their journey, providing education and appropriately seeking direction from the provider as needed to share expert clinical instruction.
• Plays an active role in ensuring that patient areas are neat, clean and welcoming to visitors.

Data Management

• Participates in upholding the integrity of the electronic health record, facilitating timely and accurate clinical data to payers.
• Follows all protocols to protect patient privacy and data from unauthorized access or breaches.
• Ensures compliance with CPT and ICD-10 coding protocols to facilitate accurate insurance claims and reimbursement.

Personal Development

• Pursues certification through JCAHPO that enhances and validates clinical expertise.
• Participates in training and development opportunities, making every effort to stay current with new trends in clinical care, technology, coding and regulatory requirements.
• Seeks feedback from providers, peers and leadership for continuous growth and development.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as an ophthalmic or optometric technician.
• JCAHPO certification is preferred, but not required.
• Experience within a professional environment with a strong customer service focus is preferred.
• High school or equivalent education is required.
