This full-time position provides peri-operative Phase I nursing care in accordance with established standards, policies, procedures, licensure, and scope of practice.
Other responsibilities include:
  • Provides Phase I post-anesthesia nursing care, interprets all monitoring parameters and reports abnormal trending to the anesthesiologist, anesthetists or surgeons.
  • Utilizes the nursing process in providing care and includes the process in documentation, identifying unusual conditions, and utilizing initiative and judgment to carry out appropriate response.
  • Receives, transcribes, and executes physician orders and communicates to others, as needed, for continuity of care.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments and patient specific cares to patient in accordance with approved nursing techniques.
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents throughout the progression of care.
  • Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including instruction to the patient, family and others, as identified.
  • Provides post-operative nursing care to include Phase I recovery, evaluation of post-anesthesia criteria for discharge, discharge planning, post-discharge interview and appropriate referral as needed.
  • Assists in training, supervision, and evaluation of nursing service personnel.
  • Completes annual competency skill testing.
  • Promotes and participates in quality assurance (QA) safety and infection control activities through participation in QA program and/or committee involvement.
  • Performs routine department and housekeeping tasks to maintain the flow of work.
  • Provides on-call status.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QualificationsGraduate of an approved Registered Nurse Program.
Holds or is eligible for current licensure in the State of South Dakota. CPR required.
Two years general duty with critical care experience.
Prairie Lakes Healthcare System has a Drug Free Workplace Policy. An accepted offer will require a drug screen and pre-employment background screening as a condition of employment.
