To begin in the 2024-2025 year, Atrium School seeks a passionate, collaborative, energetic, and experienced full-time Middle School Social Studies Teacher and team member to work with all of our 6th-8th graders, bringing history to life through hands-on, engaging, and student-centered learning opportunities. This teaching position is for Grade 6-8, as part of a middle school team and a full faculty, PreK - Grade 8. We seek a candidate with the following qualifications and the ability to advance the school's mission and core values. Qualifications: The spirit and qualities of innovation, reflection, initiative, collaboration, and kindness Bachelor's degree required, master's degree in history or teaching-related field preferred Minimum of three years teaching social studies, with middle school experience; knowledge and understanding of middle school student's emotional, physical, cognitive, and intellectual development Excellent communication skills with students, colleagues, parents, and greater community Experience and capacity to teach diverse, multicultural perspectives Strong ability to problem-solve and work both independently and collaboratively Interest in sustaining a dynamic, progressive middle school program Commitment to professional development and reflective practice Fluency and ease with Chromebooks, Google Workspace, and an interest in further developing effective instructional technologies Orientation towards curriculum development and interdisciplinary projects Responsibilities: Teach one section per grade of social studies centered on essential questions and grade level themes that connect to other disciplines, and develop chronological and geographical reasoning, economical systems, reasoning, perspective taking, and analytical thinking Develop, refine, and further align our social studies curriculum and instructional program, following Atrium benchmarks and Massachusetts Common Core content and standards; assess student growth using multiple strategies Write parent/guardian communications and individualized student progress reports Work with the middle school team, administrators, and families to support positive school climate, as well as to integrate plans for students with IEP or other support needs Conduct family conferences and regularly communicate with the parent/guardian body about social studies curriculum Lead a mixed-grade middle school Advisory integrating Restorative Justice practices and serve as the Advisor for a small group of students, closely supporting their social-emotional and academic growth throughout their years in the Middle School Attend relevant meetings and events during the school day and after school as contracted In addition, faculty at Atrium: Are passionate experts in their content areas and instructional skills; write skillfully and frequently Enjoy and have great capacity to nurture the whole child, and value the broad array of learning approaches that every child possesses Value the varied dimensions of student learning and progress Collaborate daily with multiple colleagues to plan and carry out complex, integrated learning experiences that cross grades and subject areas Initiate and continually plan their own growth, within a supportive atmosphere that prioritizes professional development We seek candidates who will add to the racial, cultural, and gender diversity of the school community.
