Welcome to Advance Plumbing & Heating Supply Company, a fourth-generation family owned and operated business, started in 1920. The company's original location was at 2984 Grand River Ave. in Detroit, across from the Motor City Casino. On October 31st, 2016 we moved to our new location at 150 Parsons St. in Midtown Detroit. The new state-of-the-art location features the City of Detroit's first ever Decorative Plumbing Showroom which opened in winter of 2018.

In 1990, with a solid reputation for excellence and an expanding market, Advance opened up a second location in Walled Lake, Michigan which features a state-of-the-art 5,000-square foot decorative plumbing showroom and an outstanding plumbing & heating parts counter.

What You’ll Do:

Purchasing Specialist prepares and processes purchase orders and maintains purchasing records. Interacts with suppliers to obtain pricing and product specifications. A Purchasing Specialist verifies orders and pricing with a high level of attention to detail while utilizing superb communications skills to maintain profitable relationships. 

Some Duties May Include: 

  • Answering phone calls and directing to relevant parties 
  • Supporting customer inquiries such as order status checks, warranty issues or other product support
  • Utilize listening skills and probing questions to identify the customer’s concern and evaluate their needs
  • Complete whole sales, quotes and collect orders from internal sales department 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with new or existing customers, vendors or wholesalers
  • Review orders for pre-paid freight to ensure shipping requirements are met
  • Conduct quality verifications on purchase orders such as model number, prices and job quotes
  • Attend product knowledge training provided by organization or vendors
  • Utilize internal ERP system for information such as customer information, inventory, PO
  • Be willing to study and gain product knowledge on a large catalog of items
  • Perform clerical duties such as file management and organization
  • Assist the Purchasing Manager with other duties as assigned

Requirements

What You Need to Get the Job Done:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and leadership qualities
  • Be capable of working in a fast-paced environment, in a customer focused role, while having a high attention to detail and speed
  • Prior experience handling a multi-line phone system
  • Basic computer experience such as Microsoft Office, Point-of-Sale and/or another internal database software
