This position is specifically located in the FDPD Quality Assurance (QA) Section, which is responsible for developing and implementing an ISO 17025-accredited quality management system (QMS) for the FDPD Laboratory. The QA Section develops and maintains policies and procedures for producing accurate, precise, and legally defensible data; audits laboratory activities to ensure compliance with these policies and procedures; and works closely with laboratory management to identify and mitigate risks to the QMS.
Primary duties include: The employee’s primary job functions are:
- Executing, maintaining, and expanding procedures and policies to support the QMS and ISO 17025 accreditation.
- Administering QMS training
- Auditing laboratory compliance with ISO 17025 and QMS requirements
- Serving as a system administrator for Qualtrax
- Reviewing verifications and validations of new technical methods
- Maintaining and verifying QA-managed equipment
- Other duties as assigned

- Knowledge of advanced microbiology and/or chemistry methodologies.
- Knowledge of principles of auditing.
- Ability to conduct audits of quality management systems or technical methods.
- Ability to apply general knowledge of advance microbiology and chemistry methodologies.
- Ability to modify and adapt quality system software for laboratory use.
- Ability to present training programs on a wide variety of QA topics.
- Ability to effectively communicate with all laboratory and division personnel.
Management Preferences:- Experience with at least one of the following methodologies: microscopy; gas chromatography (GC); high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC); inductively coupled plasma (ICP); mass spectrometry (ICP-MS, GC-MS, LC-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS); combustion techniques; ion chromatography (IC); atomic absorption spectroscopy (AA).
Bachelor's degree in medical technology, microbiology, chemistry or a closely related biological science field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in a laboratory in the assigned work area; or an equivalent combination or education and experience.
