State of North Carolina is Hiring an Accounting Technician II Near Wake, NC

The Accounting Technician II position is responsible for processing, recording, reconciling, and reporting financial transactions at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. This position requires work through a complex accounting process, adhering to state and federal policies and statutes. The position serves as one the OCME liaisons between the OCME and the Division of Public Health’s Contracts and Purchasing Offices, as well as DHHS Controller’s Office.
 
Accounts Payables
This position must monitor the Medical Examiner Information System (MEIS) which automatically generates invoices at the first of each month for local government payments. This action allows OCME to support commercial service accounts and contracts in accordance with established Division policy and procedures. This position also monitors and issues requests for dual employment payments to on-call staff. This position mails/emails invoices requesting the counties to pay Medical Examiner fees. This position may assist with entering transporter vouchers/invoices into MEIS and tracking payment from the Controller’s Office to the transporters.
 
Accounts Receivables 
This position mails/emails invoices to the counties requesting autopsy payments to the OCME and processes all checks by reviewing, logging, and preparing checks for deposit. The employee may work with other administrative employees to review and ensure accuracy and track payments.
 
Administrative Duties
This position processes all OCME staff travel requests and reimbursements and also assists with fixed asset inventory. This position may assist the Operations Manager with preparing budgets and budget revisions.

  • Knowledge of accounting procedures, applicable mathematics and their application in the work environment. 
  • Ability to record, compile, summarize and analyze data.
  • Ability to review and process information to determine conclusion, actions or compliance with applicable laws, rules or regulations.
  • Ability to analyze work situations and interpret program content in making decisions and explaining policies, regulations and programs. 
  • Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and retain technical information and medical terminology.
  • Ability to use all MS Office products, particularly MS Word, and Excel and some ability in MS Access.
  • Must possess a high degree of accuracy, effective oral and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work well with others.
Management Preferences:
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience with the North Carolina Accounting/Financial System. Knowledge of state purchasing guidelines and the statewide E-Procurement System. Strong MS Excel and Word skills.
