Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a crucial role in facilitating communication between individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing and those who can hear. Your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) and your ability to interpret and translate spoken language into sign language will be essential in ensuring effective communication.
Responsibilities:
- Provide interpretation services using ASL to facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing individuals and hearing individuals
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa accurately and effectively
- Translate written materials into sign language for accessibility purposes
- Assist with communication during meetings, conferences, appointments, and other events as needed
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards
- Continuously develop your skills and knowledge in ASL, linguistics, and interpreting techniques
Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required
- Strong linguistic skills with the ability to understand and interpret various forms of sign language
- Multilingual abilities are a plus
- Proven experience as a sign language interpreter or related field is preferred
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
- Ability to effectively interpret and translate spoken language into sign language accurately and in real-time
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals
- Knowledge of deaf culture and sensitivity towards the needs of deaf or hard of hearing individuals
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $40.00 per hour
