Description

Position Summary

Responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision metal parts. Produces small batches or large quantities of metal parts. Ensure products meet precise specifications. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.

Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities

  • Operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to produce metal parts.
  • Review electronic or written blueprints or specifications for a job.
  • Calculate where to cut or bore.
  • Select tools and materials for the job.
  • Plan the sequence of cutting and finishing operations.
  • Monitor and control feed rate and speed.
  • Regulate temperature of work piece.
  • Detect problems by listening for specific sounds.
  • Monitor the accuracy of cuts.
  • Check accuracy of work against blueprints and specifications.
  • Produce large quantities of parts.
  • Concert path, speed, and feed information into set of instructions for machine tool.
  • Use manual and computer-controlled machinery.
  • Duties would include building and maintenance of stamping dies, modular tool change-overs, and basic Press Room support.
  • Building, repairing, and maintenance of progressive and “one out” dies.
  • Press room support and troubleshooting abilities are a must.
  • Periodic reviews of perishable tooling for reorder and on hand quantity purposes.
  • Producing details for dies as well as for fixturing or proto-typing purposes.
  • The preparations, of details, for heat treat and wire work is required on an as needed basis.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent grinding skills
  • Progressive die experience preferred
  • Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) experience, preferred
  • Must be fluent with all basic tool room equipment
  • One must be a self starter, possess the ability to take direction from multiple sources, while minimizing any potential down time of production.
  • A full complement of personal tools, excluding perishables, would be expected.
  • Must have sense of urgency and ability to prioritize
  • Must be able to lift minimal of 50 lbs periodically
